Anything really. This theme is just too silly and whimsical.
On the other hand, a Star Wars theme (Empire, Jedi, Rebels, etc) or a Game of Thrones theme would be great.

Another quick card game that I picked up. This one is just ok. Very similar to 7 Wonders but not as fun.

I've had this little card (drafting) game for years, but never played. Looking for a quick closer and Alan had played it before and was willing to teach us. As Alan had warned, after 1st play, we were befuddled. I actually didn't get it at all, and would likely have not played again. But Michael said, "that was quick, let's play again". So we did. Wow. What a difference a 2nd play made! Once you know the cards and the possibilities, it suddenly makes sense and was alot of fun! (and quick, about 15-20 mins)! So glad we tried it that way and gave it a 2nd chance! Would like to see more folks try this, great starter/closer for 3-5.
You can see the influence it had on 7 Wonders.
Game 1 (no idea what we were doing) 51 - ALAN 44 - Michael 36 - Scott 34 - Steve
Game 2 (NOW it makes sense!) 48 - STEVE 39 - Alan & Scott (tied) 35 - Michael

The hours were winding down and we had only a little time left before the closing ceremonies. Hoyle suggested this quick little card game, so Dustin and I jumped in a game. I was the only one that had never played before. Fairy Tale is a drafting game like the popular 7 Wonders. Pick a card to use, pass the deck, etc. So what did I think? Meh...sums it up. I guess its a decent filler, but I really didn't care for the artwork on the cards and I thought all the icons were just too busy looking..Meh meh double Meh..

Clearly one of the inspirations for 7 Wonders, and plays great with 2.

This very short filler involving card drafting has only been played once this year, and while I don't expect it to quit getting plays entirely I predict that it will continue to lose position on this list to new and better fillers.
Purchased Nov. 11, 2009
Cost = $14 Total Plays = 45 Cost per play = 31¢ (32¢ last year) Plays this year = 1 Moved down from #5.

After a quick lunch, I played this nice drafting game. I really enjoy it, and actually like it a little better than 7 Wonders.
My roommate was less impressed.
I got pretty lucky with a group of 5 Homesteaders, and even got passed the Sword King with the 9-point bonus card already in play.
I think this is best with the full complement of players as all the cards are used, but I had a good time even with only 3.

15 plays.
This has jumped up recently after my roommate, Mosiah, discovered this. As it is also his Swedish girlfriend's favorite game (now), it gets played a lot. I've played it 15 times. I'm sure it has seen 50 plays though. I might have to sell it to Mosiah, especially if Zev is planning another print run of it...

An expansion or a new game based on this great game. All it needs is a little more depth and a little longer. Clearer icons and pairs would be good too.

I think this sells for about $10-12. A fun tableau-building game with a drafting mechanic. You can make the initial plays easier for beginners/younger players by removing certain cards (either the "skull" cards and/or the "star" cards) until they get the hang of the basic scoring mechanism. Great game if you only have about 20 minutes.

The best card-drafting game out there, and for $10 you aren't shelling out big bucks (Ahem, 7-Wonders).
