She then found Liebrary, opened, but everything was in pristine conditon and the box looks brand new. $5.00. Not a bad looking game, but we'll need to wait until a get together before playing as it requires 3 people.

Looks interesting.
The time is long overdue for me to turn the page on my old gaming habits -- I need to juggle my schedule and book a session of Liebrary...
...or maybe I'll just shelve the idea.

Scored this for $2 on the B&N clearance table amoung all the halloween and christmas books they were trying to clear out. There were two copies and I would have grabbed both but hesitation cost me #2.

The box for this is kind of beat up, with scuffing and some water damage. The cards, though, are undamaged. There is some minor wear on the edges of some of the cards, but otherwise in good condition.

This morning began with cold and foggy blanket tossed over the roads.I arrived at work after a 5 day vacation. There was a small package whose mailing label hinted at an address near a warmmm South American jungle(Amazon) I knew Secret Santa,
who has been very quiet this month, must have had a hand in it.
It came from the ID! the game mechanic of card sets and hand management faded behind the images of the cards- I had to have them. Listed as 1- 2 players , maybe solo play is its destiny here unless you dare?
I'm looking for more citizens of Carcassonne to play with regularly- this is my quest -this is my impossible? dream. The expansion I hope will open doors to this road (or city, abbey, river).
Later at the end of the work day another package arrived, as foretold by a message in the first. The second was larger!
As I opened it I knew Secret Santa had checked my list well. After coming across the description of this game on BGG several months ago I knew this was something I could sink my teeth into and get my hands dirty with.
Something as creative as Dixit but restrained into a narrower field. Guessing the correct first line of a novel from several genres ("classics, children's, fiction/non-fiction, romance and mystery/sci-fi/horror").
I'm calling out to gamers in my area of Northern California from: Elk Grove to Roseville & Davis to Folsom If this game (Liebrary) appeals to you then please fire off a Geek Mail to me. I'm looking for players. _____________________________________________________________________________
SECRET SANTA
you have done an outstanding job , THANK YOU -I can dig it.
MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY YULE & say Hi to the HOGFATHER for me if you see him on your nightly rounds.

Our daughter (8 years old) really likes this game, and sometimes her younger brother plays with us, too. Apparently, no one else thinks a lot of this game.

I have several games this month which qualify. The reasons for that are 1) I went to a small game con, which meant I'd get to try out a bunch of new (mostly party) games and play some old standards and 2) our daughter wanted to try Liebrary.
The games that only I registered a play of were:
- Hollywood Shuffle, which was fairly dreadful - It Takes Two, which I'd emceed before but never got to play. This is Wits & Wagers, or more properly Say When, 1960s style (yeah, it's old); I liked it - Rain Forest Card Games, which our son wanted to try after Liebrary one night - Rapid Recall, which someone requested I bring to the game con--a cute team party game which suffers from "first-team-wins" syndrome. - Stage II Sampler - because we often play Stage II when we get together and this time, we used a different set of cards (also from the mid 1980s) - Spinergy - I finally got to play and it's a neat contraption, but the gameplay, while different from Balderdash, isn't different enough to merit much repeated play - and of course Liebrary, which we played 3 times so far this month. I was amazed how well it worked with an 8 and 6 year-old.

VoA, South High St, 90 cents complete, contents still in original packaging.
It's not everyday you find something designed by Daryl Hannah in a thrift store. Even though Dominic is hotter, I'll give it a shot. I figured I had to get it so I can compare these, ahem, rising star designers...plus I'm only out 90 cents. Looks mildly interesting, but I'm sure it's no Wits & Wagers...

In excellent shape, most of the cards still in shrink (probably a gift that was tried once and given away). It has wooden book player markers - I might eBay this, or steal the books and timer, and read the cards for fun. $2.99, Ithaca Salvation Army.

Yet another "Game Box as Book" entry.
Inside the card holders are designed to mimic a card catalog. Anyone remember those?
Looks great on the shelf and a fun party game as well. The designer isn't hard on the eyes either

(2005)
"In Liebrary, one player reads the title, author, and synopsis of a real-life book (e.g. Julius Caesar, Jurassic Park, or Mr. Brown Can Moo). The other players must each write and submit their best attempt at a first line for the book. The first player reads all the submissions, including the real first line of the book, and then the other players each try to pick out the real one. Players get points for choosing the real first line, getting other players to select their submission, and possibly knowing the real first line before it is revealed. The reader gets points only if no players correctly guess the real first line, but the reader position rotates."
