Was the 208th Geek of the Week.

Two Truths and a Lie:

1. I have driven over 20 years, but have only ever been pulled over by the police once.
2. I have married over 30 women, but never said "I do" to any one of them.
3. I have over 100 real sheep grazing outside my window, but never use any of them to feed my family.

meeple

Thanks to everyone who participated in this week's GotW thread, I appreciated all the encouraging comments, and enjoyed the questions. Time to "fess" up about the two truths and a lie! Taking them in reverse order:

3. I have over 100 real sheep grazing outside my window, but never use any of them to feed my family.

True. My home is located just outside an urban area, and I'm surrounded by farmer's fields on most sides. The sheep aren't mine, but from my window I can see over one hundred of them in the neighbouring pasture. Some of them get as close as three meters from my window. But since I'm not the local sheep farmer and don't own the sheep, I just get to watch them, and not kill and cook them to feed my family! I'm more of a Pastor (Shepherd) rather than an Agricola (Farmer), and tend to specialize more in the two legged kind of sheep than the woolly four legged kind!

EndersGame wrote:
2. I have married over 30 women, but never said "I do" to any one of them.

True. Most people correctly figured out that as a minister, I've solemnized over thirty weddings. So I can truthfully say I've married over thirty women without needing to be embarrassed about the fact! However, at my own wedding, my wife and I decided to recite our vows in full rather than responding with "I do" to a question asked by the officiating minister. So technically I've never said "I do" in this respect to any of the women I've married. However, I can assure you that I am happily married, and firmly committed to the vow I made on my wedding day!

EndersGame wrote:

False. It is true that I've been driving for over twenty years. But at present I have a completely clean record, and have never had any infractions or been pulled over by the police ... yet! Mind you, that doesn't mean I've never been guilty of speeding or other traffic violations accidental or deliberate (although I'd like to think I'm a careful and cautious driver on the whole), but it does mean that I've never been caught!

Dont know why I took that one with me. Low trade value, average play. May be it was because it was cheap again (0.50 cent).

OK, now the disclaimer: the above 3 games are the only ones I have played. I still consider them to be of such high quality that I can create this list. (Kinda like the one writer for 'The Twilight Zone' who only penned four episodes, but all four of such high quality ('A Penny For Your Thoughts', 'Nothing in the Dark', 'Game of Pool', & 'Kick the Can') that he must be mentioned in any conversation.)

Anyhow, I welcome comments on the following games which I have heard of and am curious about.

Ruediger Dorn

Ex und Hopp, published in 1990.
2-6 player card game.

A player wins cards by having the most colored cards on a chit when it is scored. A chit is scored when the number of cards on it is the same as the number printed on it.

Dorn has two games easily in the top 100: Goa at 16 and Traders of Genoa at 65. Two of his recently released games are already in the top 200: Jambo at 159 and Louis XIV at 188.

And by far the hardest is to go through BGG methodically, searching for games that haven't been Geeklisted yet.

This is, I'm almost certain, the game with the lowest BGG id (#208) that hasn't been Geeklisted before. I did find three interesting cases in the first 100 games, though:

The Garden Game (#65) has been Geeklisted just once so far, making it the game with the lowest BGG id # with that distinction.

Day Trader (#92) has also been Geeklisted just once, in a contest Geeklist completely unrelated to the game itself. It's also the only game for which Derk Solko is listed as a (co-)designer.

Terrain Vague has been Geeklisted twice, which is a remarkably low total for a game with such a low BGG id (#29!); even more remarkable, one of those lists was the same contest list that has Day Trader, and for the other list it was chosen at random! How did such a neglected game get such a low BGG id..?
