You learn that while it is true that Great Britain has not been successfully invaded since 1066 before that everyone and their brother successfully invaded the place on a semi weekly basis.

Love this game in how it ebbs and flows. Blue definitely has an advantage in how the scoring goes but it's still a fantastic game.

Britannia was the game I'd signed up to teach. I wasn't sure there would be enough players, but we actually ended up with 5. I don't like it much with 5, but I also didn't want to lead a 4+ hour game and not actually be playing, so we did a 5er. It was pretty fun, but the factions aren't really that well balanced; not anything like 4-player, which runs like a well-oiled machine. I won't probably ever play this 5-player again.
I came in 3rd, I think. Well behind 1st and 2nd.

We played a long 4 player game of Britannia.
Final Scores: Steven Sheasby (RED) 242 Mark Woodson (YELLOW) 232 John Boone (BLUE) 218 Kent Wayne (GREEN) 203
From the numbers it looks like, Steven's Saxons did really well. Mark's Scots and Romano-British did above average. All of my factions with the exception of the Angles did well. Kent's Welsh did well.
Kent, Steven, and Mark:
Turn 6:
Turn 13: Steven's Saxons would dominate with the elimination of the Angles. The Saxons took the Kingship 3 out of the 4 opportunities. Prior to that the Angles and the Scots were Bretwalda.
Turn 16 start William would claim the Kingship on the last turn with the elimination of all other claimants. :

I've played a lot of games solitaire. The one that I probably enjoyed the most – that wasn't designed as a solitaire game in the first place – was Britannia (the Avalon Hill version).
You really need exactly four players to play this game, but I never could convince my ASL- and Magic Realm-playing friends to give it a try.
It is, however, fascinating to play solitaire. Aptly described as a "sweep of history" game, 16 historical factions ebb and flow across a map of Britain over the course of nearly 1000 years. I never tire of watching history play out this way.
It's extremely simple for a wargame, and each of the 16 factions has very specific victory point requirements that drive the action along historical lines. I think that some players believe that this makes the game feel too "scripted," but it works well for the solitaire player as you can just jump into the role of each faction in turn and "go for it." I suspect that there wouldn't be much negotiation or diplomacy in a real multi-player session, because each faction is so constrained in what it can do... and this also works in the solitaire player's favor.

I know. This one is not only Scotland. But it does have a strong Scottish theme, with Picts, Caledonians and Scots having an important role in the game.

0) Britannia again. Still one of the hardest ones to get to the table.
1) I haven't. This reflects how little attention I have been paying, rather than the quality of projects. 2) Pathfinder RPG. 3) To try to procrastinate less. 4) Again, probably Pathfinder. 5) Race For The Galaxy: The Gathering Storm replaced Race For The Galaxy, which replaced San Juan. Usually it's not as straightforward as one game directly replacing another; games fall in and out of the mix on their own merits or by chance. 6) I don't use apps really. I have a smartphone because those are the phones they hand out for free. 7) Probably Legos. 8) Against. Jacks up the price, and I have a thing against single-purpose electronics, given that we have computers. 9) Probably not. 10) I think pre-specifying a number, e.g. "1", is unnecessarily limiting.
11) Is there a viable way to reduce the power of money, so we can turn our society into something sustainable that actually works reliably for people? (Or to do that second one without reducing the power of money?)
