TOTAL PLAYS: 6
Face to face: 2 Solitaire: 4
I was introduced to this 1976 game at my weeknight game group. We played it twice and it's a blast! By luck, Decision Games was just about to republish this (listed as Russian Civil War 1918-1922 (second edition)[/]), so I grabbed it and played some solitaire games (there is a solitaire scenario), too. (I listed all my plays under first edition, for some reason.)
A session report from one of our four-player games:
A somewhat impressionistic report of a wild Russian Civil War, with a surprise ending

Another appearance of pink; this time from SPI.
I like the 2nd edition recently done by Miranda and gang. Game map from that version below:

acceptable: game player's version. I played it a lot decades ago and it shows. Pieces that go in the cup are worn. a couple pieces are missing with replacements made. The mounted board is in exc cond though. The box is damaged because tape was used on it by a mover, but no corners are broken.
Free within CONUS & first $10 elsewhere

Game on the list is actually Mr.Miranda's recent 2nd addition from S&T. Hats off to S&T for updating. Like the new rules/chrome/map. But, ohhh, those counters...

Classic multiplayer about the Russian Civil War. Recently re-issued by S&T (the version I own and would like to give a try).
Chaos, conflict, chrome, backstabbing, etc.

Played FOUR solo games of the new Decision Games version this evening, in about two hours (not counting setup, which was already done).
Seems tough for the Reds. Three games ended extremely quickly, with enemy forces in Moscow and/or St Petersburg. The fourth game, the Reds avoided early calamity but could not quite eradicate the core of the country (Greater Russia, White Russia, Don Cossacks, Ukraine) of enemy units in time to get a win.
Quite different from the multiplayer version, but interesting.

Yeah, I know it came out in 1976. But I'd never played it. Played two four-player games in January, and WOW I like this game. Chaotic, full of back-stabbing and double-crossing and Czar-murdering. Really, what's not to like? I just wish I'd discovered it earlier because my teenaged/college era game groups would have LOVED this game, like Kingmaker on the Volga.
AND - a new edition is coming out in the March edition of Strategy & Tactics. I've already ordered it.

We started a four-player game of the Russian Civil War last night. Half-way thru the game (I'm guessing, never played before) after a good start, things look bad for the White Russian forces. The Tsar is dead, too. The British have pulled out, the Poles are invading. Bunch of lesser Red leaders have bitten the dust, but White forces are now in full retreat and mostly holed up in the Trans-Caucasus. I don't think I can win, but the game is a lot of fun.
I wish I'd had this game when SPI first released it in the '70s. It would have been PERFECT for my game group back then! Multiplayer (2-6). Diplomacy, treachery, backstabbing, combat, executing nobles (well, the Tsar anyway). Shifting factions. Random force allocation. Kind of like Kingmaker on the Volga!

Just finished up a game of this,
and it's a real shame 'twas never republished.
Given the price it gets online, I'm surprised.

Pick youself up a copy of this for your group. Playtime 3 to 4 hours if I recall correctly. A blast. Short rules. Unique game where each player controls both the REDs and the WHITEs and manipulates things to have the side win that most favors them.
