I'm well inclined towards trading games anyway, and thus it wasn't a surprise that this game would grow to be one of my favorites. One thing that likely helps is that it's a game where you have to pay attention; you can play without doing so, but you'll almost certainly miss out on important trading opportunities if you don't. This has been my favorite Knizia game for some time, now, and nothing I've played of his recently suggests any chance at passing Res Publica for me.

Honestly, I prefer the Queen Edition, but this symbol from the Hexagames edition was easier to work into a microbadge - and unlike the existing microbadge _wasn't_ from the Avalanche edition.

FRIDAY
Earl and Michelle had other plans for most days during the event, so didn't attend this year. But they did arrange to have Friday free! So Mary, Janna, and I joined them for breakfast at Pam's Farmhouse -- yumm! It's a traditional Southern place, with all the fried and greasy stuff you could hope for! And mmmm mmm tasty bacon! After breakfast, we headed back to their place for a few games.
This is an OLDIE, but neither Mary nor I had played it before! It's one of Earl's and Michelle's favorites and they kindly taught the game. I used to love a lot of Knizia games but he's not really my favorite any more; this one, though, was quite enjoyable! It's a nice filler-y type of game.
--- Summary ---
There are 2 decks of cards. You initially use just one of them, dealing each player a hand of cards. On your turn, you draw a card then try to trade. Trading has a twist: either announce what you have, or what you want; in turn, players announce what they have, following your original wording format. In fact, there are specific rules about how to word things in these announcements. After hearing all the others, you choose a player with whom to trade. The goal is to meld a set of 5 like cards (each deck has 12? cards in each of 5 types); when you do so, you get a VP reward card, and you get to draw an extra card each turn (max 2 extra cards?). You play through both decks, then players earn some extra VP for some of their cards in hand. Most VP wins.
