Such a great game, but not one I enjoy playing. Knowing where you are in relation to the other player gets to be exhausting for me.

That mirrors politics quite well. You can never be quite sure how well you've stacked up in each state vs your opponent until right to the end. I don't worry how I'm going anyway - ignore the opinion polls and enjoy the ride.

I got a whole lot better at 1960 once I realized that campaigning is mostly a waste of time except in the endgame (when the support picture is clearer) or to set up a big event. You get more support per card play with events.

That's interesting, I haven't played in a long time and got put off playing online (1 min turns) as nobody played events - took too long to work out if they were worthwhile or not - and just played ops on the issue track instead. The events make the game, but haven't played again. Must jump back into it.

I like to pound the issues too, especially when I play Nixon. Gotta have some momentum, and if you can deprive your opponent of momentum, so much the better.

Like some other games here, not on the same scale as many on the list, but trying to sort and place the 50 state counters (that are really only there to help with the scoring) is quite annoying on top of the rest of the setup.

Anna was very nice and offered to play 1960 with me. I don’t often get to play it, but it is one of my favorite games. She played Nixon and I played Kennedy. I immediately got 5 influence in New York and Pennsylvania and by turn three, thanks to two Gaining Momentum cards, had every single state in the East and South. Anna worked her way down into the South, but I gained control of Ohio & Illinois. During the debates I one the final 2 for 7 of the 9 influence involved. By election day I controlled CA, NY, PA, OH, IL, TX. The only large state I didn’t control was Michigan.

Adam (Kennedy) – 369
Anna (Nixon) – 168

Zombie Fried was the last game I played on Friday, but I did participate in the math trade this year. I traded sixteen total games for twelve games in return. The game I was most excited to get was this one, but I also got the following games in the trade:
Toledo
Attack!
The Journeys of Paul
Diplomacy
1776
War and Peace
In the Shadow of the Emperor
Euphrates & Tigris Card Game
Bridge Troll
Lord of the Rings: The Duel
Sector 41

1960 is a great game.
Personally, I like it better than Twilight Struggle it takes a lot less time and the sides are so evenly matched that you never know what to expect from game to game.

This is another game that I've only played a few times, but it was an interesting game. Politics aren't of much interest to most people except in election years, but this game captures the tension of a close political race. 1960 was perhaps the most seesaw election process in recent history, and this game captures it perfectly. Each player can play cards either for their affect or for action points, but they have to be careful because if they use them for action points, their opponent can try to use the action for himself. I don't have much of the strategy to this game figured out, but it's a very well designed two player game, and it makes me want to try Twilight Struggle. A great political game about a fascinating election, and my favorite 2 player only game.
