If the red '0' and then two dashes (--) appear when the tower is turned on, then the tower is probably just 'stuck'. When the towers sit unused for a long time, the electric motor does not want to 'spin'.

If the lights come on, you can try the following procedure:

Take the 4 screws out of the bottom of the tower, the electric motor and gears will then be exposed. The key pad will be loose, so be careful not to break the wires.

Put in new batteries.

Turn the game on. Press any button on the keypad, and then spin the white worm gear that is connected to the motor clockwise by hand for about 10 seconds. The motor may want to start spinning right away, but it may also need some help.

After about 10 seconds, turn off the tower, wait another 10 seconds, and then do the procedure again.

It may take several minutes to get the tower to 'spin' again. The longer they have been unused, the more time it may take to get them to 'spin'.

This has worked for me before in the past with the 2 towers that I have had. You may be able to get them working just by taking the clear red panal off and gently pushing the colored scene panal to the right.

A story expunged from the bible. Noah get's the instructions a bit wrong and builds a tower.

In the game version the aim is to load the bigger and heavier animals first, or risk having your points squashed. sauron

This was the first thing I saw on the shelves at my Value Village during my lunch run today. The tower unit has no batteries in it but also no visible corrosion. All the other bits are ziploc-baggied together. This was an auto-buy so I didn't even begin to inventory the bits in the store. If I can get to testing and counting the next couple of nights I'll post an update.

Everything is in good shape, except that the box top has a strip of packing tape around all 4 sides, apparently just to fix one split corner. shake At least Value Village didn't additionally tape it shut.

Wahoo!

$6.99.

UPDATE- The tower unit turns on, but the motor doesn't turn and it doesn't do anything further. The contents are mostly complete, I have all the pawns, buildings, Pegasus cards, and scoreboards. Missing one silver key and one flag, and two other flags are broken.

nice!

in january, i arranged for my youth group to start volunteering at a SVDP warehouse. i dont usually go to this thrift store, b/c they didnt carry any boardgames. but in january, while we were volunteering, i discovered some boxes with board games, and found a copy of acquire with wooden tiles. the story is here.

well today, while taking a break from sorting book, i found a couple more boxes of board games.

and i found a copy of dark tower with a very beat up box. the tape on the box was nearly disintegrating in my hands. there is acid damage on the box, but apparently the batteries were removed and the casing cleaned up a bit.

the bits were bagged up and mostly there. a few odds and ends are missing though.

and i also found a copy of ken follett's world without end. i have been looking for a copy for a while. all in all, a nice day spent volunteering.

i got both dark tower and world without end (the novel) for a $10 donation.

yup. so was the acquire with wooden tiles. and a copy of shogun (which they unearthed and recently sold).

there are SO MANY boxes filled with sorted good in this warehouse (not so many board games though). if they need womens shoes, they take some boxes from the shelves with womens shoes (probably 100 or more boxes) and put them on the shelves.

i cant imagine what else is in the storeroom of some of these other thrift stores.

Munchkin, as well as the Pirate Munchkin sit on my shelf because they were gifts from a family member. And truth be told, they were fairly amusing to play a few times in a lighthearted setting. But that was all. So they sit. arrrh

I do think my group would enjoy something this classic and goofy, from time to time.

Two offenders here: the dragon mini and the little plastic flags.

You get randomly attacked by the dragon and then put the dragon mini on your space, as a reminder of dragon superiority. Then someone else gets randomly attacked and they take it away and put it on their space. Pure dragon fan-service.

Then you have little flags that you put on each quadrant of the map and accidentally snap in half whenever you lean over the board. And of course there is a tiny flag you put on top of the giant, centrally located, tower itself... just in case you have trouble remembering where you parked it.

You have to flip the tower over to turn it off/on and to change the batteries.

The flag on the top of the tower is to remind you to remove the flag from the top of the tower before flipping it over so you don't snap the flag off of the top of the tower. shake

(didn't work for me, I snapped the damned flag off the day I got the game)

I don't know about the flags as ours never stood up, so we left them in the box. Still, they do seem kind of pointless since there is a nice big emblem for each player printed right there on the board.

I got this back when I was a kid. I really don't remember why I got rid of this. I remember that it was cool and very fun. Now it's OOP and a little costly to get. cry

This list made me think of my old copy of Dark Tower I had. But I tend to remember the Tower being really cool, but the actual game being pretty Bleh.

We ended up skipping the player movement parts and board entirely and just bartered at the bazzaar for the war beast.

I loved it because I was an only child and it was one of the few games I could actually play by myself. I got to the point where I didn't even need the board. I could just play with a pen and paper and the tower.

A typical strategy in this game is to get enough money to max out on food to avoid survival problems later in the game. Therefore, at some point each player would buy up to 99 foods to mitigate plague, etc. During this time, the other players sit patiently waiting while the player buying clicks the button 99 times and, of course, they all know what he is doing. Because purchasing is supposed to be secret, my cousin began a feeble attempt at trying to mislead everyone by making the absurd claim : "I'm buying Warriors" as he proceeded to click the button nearly 100 times.
Needless to say, our amusment with this catch phrase led all of us to make this claim EVERY time we bought a lot of food . . .

The box does show some wear but I don't believe the game has been played with in 20 years. I counted all the pieces and they are present and it looks like it was never stored with batteries. It even has the replacement bulb in the box. I did find this at a thrift but where else are you going to find a 30 year old game. People are asking $130.00 and $175.00 for incomplete ones.

It is not perfect but it is an above average copy.
Starting Bid: ?
BIN: $235.00

Been wanting to develop a digital version of the tower. So having this would help get me motivated to finish it. Need the %s for each of the events that can happen (so need the tower) and need the board to obviously play the game.

Anyone want to help out with a graphic and sound makeover?

Breaking down the Tower

Dark Tower and Smartphones

I would be OK with the game without the tower, or with a non functioning tower, however I would still need the tower to help with testing.

If anyone wants to help with the graphics or sounds feel free to GM me. I'd use the originals, but I'm sure I'd get some sort of C&D from MB.

I've seen this. It's not the same, and I have no idea if the %s are right.

I'm talking about making an app that replaces the Tower unit... not some other game you can play online.... using technology to aid in board game playing and preservation of old games with computer components......

As my goal is to have this game to play, my other equally important goal is to make the app to preserve the game. Eventually all the towers will stop working.....and that will be a sad day.

Holy moley! This might be the longest list of top finds yet. An astonishing list of thirty-three drool-worthy thrifts. Let's have a look!

The first item on the thrift list is the first item here. We found San Juan for $2; Quebec 1759 for £3; Lost Cities for $4; Nexus Ops for 79¢; Before the Wind for $5; Ricochet Robots for £4; an unpunched Stone Age for $5; Pandemic for $3; Battle Line for $4; Arkham Horror for $2; Wyatt Earp for $2; Rail Baron for $2.50; Citadels for $5; San Marco for $4; two copies of Empire Builder (one here for $2 and one here for 63¢); and Hey, That's My Fish! for $1.

The more unusual or amazing finds included two copies of Alhambra (one here for $4 and one here $1); Mesopotamia for $8; Atlantis for $4; Empires in Arms for $2; D&D: Wrath of Ashardalon for $2; Railroad Tycoon for $2; Summoner Wars for $5; Power Grid for $5; two copies of Tikal (one here for $4 and one here for $4.50); Aladdin's Dragons for $3.50; Pergamon for $1; and Iron Dragon for $2.

The Secret Cabal is absolutely knackered after going through all of that. Drinks please. And we still have the best to come!

Our runner-up could easily have been our winner. Hats off to alfonzos for his superb $2 find of an unpunched, first-edition Civilization.

Just winning by a hair is a game long sought-after by gamers everywhere. Many congratulations to
