Gaming group and its decisions affect a lot. Just because my gaming group partners are quite picky, many of games in my collection are unplayed.

You can now create a group of players that will all get added at once. Say you and your 11 friends regularly play Werewolf. If you make a group, you can do this!

Many of us have families, some of us have significant others we game with, and most of us probably wish we could fit in more plays in a week than we currently do.

Who do you play games with on a regular basis? Do you find yourself choosing which games to purchase based on the people you play with (number of players, preference of mechanics/theme, etc.)?

There we are - we have established cases where it's probably better to Play to Win, and cases where it's probably better not to Play to Win. As usual though, there's a wide open gray area between the two, and board game groups are somewhere right there in the middle.

Do you play competitively in your playing groups? Do you like to play a game over and over, or is your group more of the "sample things here and there" kind that doesn't actually allow exploiting exotic corner cases, because only by accident does somebody stumble over them in the first place? Do you have playing partners where you play "the other kind" regularly?

Most of the time it's just the two of us playing which is fine, but some games just work better with more players. We have two friends that we occasionally play games with which is great, but they're not into a lot of the heavier stuff that we really want to play with 4 people. What we need is a few other like-minded people to join us from time-to-time. Goal: find some people for a group!

Mention to Santa something about your gaming habits: do you play solitary games? Or do you have a robust group?

Just so you know Santa, I often play games with my wife and another couple. Worker placement games have been a big hit, but I'm hoping their interests expand as we play more!

Santa will know what to do!

This item is not for the pictured game, but instead for a group of random smaller games in my collection.

Update: I have decided that the best way to handle these small games is not as a group lot, but as add-ons. If you BIN a game and want one of these, I will add it on to your BIN game for an extra $5. Just post a comment here with the game you want. First come first serve.

-Nightfall (sleeved, like new condition)
-Citadels (sleeved, great condition)
-Campaign Manager 2008 (great condition)
-Blitzkrieg General (signs of heavy use, but still perfectly playable)
-Lord of the Rings: The Duel (signs of heavy use, but still perfectly playable)

Instead of starting bid, this item has a soft reserve and no BIN.

Soft Reserve: $25

Does the number of people in your gaming group make a difference as to whether you’re a hardcore or light gamer? Some people have a regular gaming group (or several groups), which meet at game stores, universities, and libraries, many of whom even have their own websites and mailing lists. Others meet with smaller groups of family and friends in their living rooms. Can a guy who plays primarily two-player games with his wife be considered a hardcore gamer, or does the number of players matter at all?

OH MY GOD!!!

I don't care how important you think your game group is, and how happy people seem to look while posing at it.

The galleries are still supposed to be for quality, relevant content. Go make your group a facebook page and upload 100 pictures there.

I do not give a single shit who won the last resistance tournament. Write a session report and put some photos there.

'Oh it has a person in it, so I should put it on bgg under the "people" gallery.'

NO.

I'm terribly shy and almost aloof in person. I try to hide this behind a forced gregarious exterior....you'd never know it after meeting me, but being around lots of people I don't know makes me nervous, so I try and be outgoing with everyone and joke whenever I can to deflect away from my feeling awkward.

One of the things that I am thoroughly envious of others on this site are those that have a game group. I can get to large game groups, but they're distant and I'm on a tight budget and can't justify multiple trips back and forth with gas prices what they are. So I'm leaning towards starting an official board game group in my county. Now this totally terrifies me...this is not my forte at all, yet almost all of these games sit on my shelves unplayed because I have no one to play them with.

Necessity is the mother of invention, they say. whistle

By and large I am very content to play games with my small circle of family and friends. I host a monthly game night on the 3rd Saturday of the month and we have a consistent 5 players (my husband and myself and 3 good friends), and typically start with a 6-player game since our 9 year-old son joins us in a filler game before he goes to bed and we get on to the serious gaming.

We've also gotten into the habit of having a family game night once a month as well, when a good friend joins our family of 3 to fill out a foursome for family games.

Occasionally we open the doors to a larger circle of folks just for the heck of it and our number will swell to 7 or 8 adults. And then there are those happy occasions when we visit my family and I get to play with my sister and her SO, and if I'm lucky my brother. For example for my birthday last March the family gathered and we played games for a whole weekend. It was brilliant.

Still... once in awhile I get the urge to expand and explore other game group options. I have communicated with some fellow gamers in my area, I've even met a few. But so far nothing has really worked out. Family constraints and timing issues mostly.

So instead of a "regular" meet-up I've begun to consider a gaming "event" as an option. Perhaps a small CON (I've looked into a few) or a gaming group that I could drop in on in. I've been toying with the option of attending the Library Game Group that meets in Spokane as part of a trip to visit family in Medical Lake. Getting to meet and perhaps play a game with reviewer Joel Eddy is definitely motivating to me.

So before my second anniversary rolls around I've made it my mission to get out of my house and go meet some fresh (I hope they're fresh at least laugh) game geeks for a day/night of gaming fun.

That's my final goal, to
attend a new game group or CON

and see what all the other geeks in the world are like versus just the few I have created or lured into my little web. sauron

Somewhere along the way I got connected with a great games group in my town. It's been a lot of fun gaming with the same people over the course of several years, and getting to know exactly how to screw them over in a game at the right moment is such a joy. These two guys have notably been great to play games with.

To enter the contest: Comment on this item about what's great about your games group, or the people you play games with the most.

Do you have a game group? Here is the one I play with most Saturday nights:

The guys

and our wives:

Since I am the one that buys a (very) large portion of the games we play I know the burden of buying most of the games.

This entry is for $50 gift certificate to coolstuffinc.com. This is my favorite online seller so I will purchase a gift certificate and send it to you. You will need an email that I can send the certificate to. In the US that will get you half way to free shipping. If you live in a country that coolstuff.inc ships to, you can enter this contest.

I want this to help the game group person who buys most of the games. Thing is, some game groups consists of just you and your wife or best friend. So, if you buy the games, feel free to enter this giveaway.

What do you have to do to get this?
If you add you game group as a comment I will add an entry for you. If you don't have one, this is a good time to make one up!

How will I pick the winner?
I will randomly pick a name from the list of game groups.

Best of luck and keep on buying!
