Have to count it, but it looks complete. Someone appears to have helpfully electrical-taped together the two boards though. But, hey, 1961 printing! I can't really complain.

Seems complete. Though my husband is a Gettysburg aficionado, none of his friends are, so this may go on the trade pile.

Thunder at the Crossroads (second edition) is the best handling of Gettysburg I've
seen. It's a lot more game than this though.

Agreed. Best game on the battle imho although it's been out of print something like 20 years now. I'm hoping The Guns of Gettysburg can fill the void that has existed since this went out of print.

IIRC, Gettysburg had infantry divisions, whereas TatC uses brigades, which means those two aren't really the same scale, either.

Frankly, don't know that there would ever be another Gettysburg game at divisional level - it doesn't seem right, after playing with either regiments or brigades.

It's a fairly large battle though, and I rather like the idea
of being able to handle it on that scale when desired. Just as
I like to pull Napoleon's Art of War out now and again.

Then again, I'm happy enough with the reprints of this one.

Even Gettysburg (1977 Edition)?

I bought that when it was brand-new, and I liked it at first. Breezed through the basic game and kinda liked the intermediate game. I put off trying the advanced game, and then I started reading about how others were finding it impossible. So eventually I abandoned the whole thing.

My first wargame. I had the 3rd edition, lost it when I went off to school. Just ordered a nice copy off Ebay and got...the 2nd edition! Surprise, surprise. Definitely different than the one I remember, most obviously due to the counters.

I've got the 1st edition, but it's missing a couple of counters.

I acquired a used copy of this game together with a 1959 edition of Risk!) around 1962 from a family whose son had entered the Air Force and was getting rid of games. It was my first AH game, and first introduction to wargaming.

I remember at age 14 in '69 going into a Miller's department store in Wesleyville, PA. I had $10 and a choice between these two games that I had never seen the like of before. AH's Gettysburg and 1914....hmmmm. I think I made the right choice, if only because it happened in my state. I've been collecting games ever since. I still have the Gettysburg I bought 43 years ago.

Here, Here! I do have an unpunched Chancellorsville, but the worn copy of Gettysburg still means a lot to me. Many good memories of playing it in the lodge cabin during Explorer campouts.

Before wargames, my friends and I had the SI and all-time allstar leagues-The computer printout and color coding were so cool looking. We used to mix and match pairs of teams-one chosen by the 'owner' and one by the opponent-you had to have half your team from each-invariably the Yankees would get paired with the '71 Astros or Phillies and so on

Good times. I still have it, but the die are rubbed to near invisibility (I know there are mock ups and templates on line now).

The copy that I once bought at the thrift store did not have any counters. I was able to make some so that could play the game but I am a completest and would like to have the originals.

Thanks,

My list starts with the 1958 AH Gettysburg

I am not sure what issue my friend's father had, but it was the Squared map and elongated pieced that I learned "serious" wargaming on. We played this game every chance we got - how well - that's another story for nine and ten year olds. But a big step up from Risk and Stratego. Today I have the 1964 version with the hexes, and I still get it out and play it.

Little Round Top
Right after college and my early years of starting a family, wargaming took a back seat to other priorities. Although the urge did not wain I tried to find games I could play solitaire. This little Bookshelf game fit the bill. Although I love many of the monster G-burg games of the late 80's and 90's [which I own] I have never had a chance to play them more than twice.

Gettysburg: The Wheatfield
So it is natural that when this game was published that I bought it. I love the Mechanics, love the idea, love the art work. I am very familiar with this action of the battle. I, myself, have written about the Texas' Brigade/1st Texas Gettysburg action for Master's work and Academic Publication and have played around with my own PnP game similar but much more hex oriented. "Wheatfield" is out right fun!

We're finding a lot of boxes with ripped corners too. When they get stacked like that at thrift stores, it's bound to happen. My father in law works in a factory that makes paper tape. We're going to ask him to bring home some water soluble paper tape to start fixing these corners. It'll be a nice white color and we'll repair the box from the inside. Hopefully it will look almost new.

I've been having decent luck with right-angle braces, binder clips, glue and Q-Tips/toothpicks.

What you want is no.4 wire and some 2by4.

That's pretty old-school. I'd go with 20 feet of 1/8" anodized aircraft cable, a couple of turnbuckles and a handful of fender washers, but that's just me.

Is the 5th edition the one with the square spaces or hex spaces?
