(6 plays in 2005, now 12 total) This is a damned fine game, and I'm going to keep it until I have a better son who'll play it with me. I find that 2 player games don't get played much at games nights, and nobody in my family is interested, but I will persevere trying to get this one played.

love this one. This is the game i've played the most out of my small collection. a lot of the depth comes from reading the other player and trying to bluff what piece you have where.

I like this game very much, and I agree it has a lot of depth and fascinating puzzle-like aspects, but..."only a few rules"? There are exceptions (Anduin, mountains, stacking, Moria just off my head), multiple game-ending conditions, and then the need to understand 18 distinct abilities and 11 special cards and how they might interact. And that's not including the Deluxe edition.

I wouldn't call it a hard game to learn, exactly, but I don't think it fits this list all that well.

Nope, didn't see it there, but in AM there was a Carom game / board complete with lots of bits, but with 1 broken peg. Was gone in the afternoon when I finished working. (I didn't want that one either)

Sorry Sliders was also there but...I've seen that there several times.
I wouldn't have gotten the Lord of the Rings but I would have GM you.

Did you get it yesterday or today?
The shelves have been especially bare there all week. There is very little in the back to go out so...as stuff trickles in they put it out.

The other ones in the first set are much better.

I recently came across an anniversary edition of Ender's Game in the library, and read Card's intro, in which he said that he only wrote Ender's Game because he needed an intro for the more interesting books later in the series. He seemed a little peeved that the first book got all the glory!

The non-deluxe edition. I liked this. Very clever. But was a bit much for my son at the time in terms of wrapping his head around the strategy. Probably wouldn't be a favorite given the hidden information, but interesting.

$12 from Spud's Emporium at Con of the North.

I found this copy for nearly 50% of its original price brand new in shrink.

Good price for a game so long out of print in this condition. I consider this a bargain if not a steal.

I already own the deluxe version and prefer the deluxe over this one due to component quality and the variants.

But this is far more portable and thus I now have a copy that can remain in the car perpetually for those coffee shop restaurant outings.

Actually I won as Fellowship, Sam distracted Sauron in the south, sacrificing himself, so Frodo was able to get to Morder and throw the ring into the fire... Good game, we were down to just 2 or 3 characters each at the end.

A fun game. Dimitri showed me the importance of keeping your units hidden, as I ran head first into more than one "if your opponent is this guy he dies" special abilities. I suppose I could have read all the text but it just seemed learning by doing was the more fun option with this game. In the end I pinpointed Frodo (my instant-win kill) to a group of two, went after the wrong one, and Frodo slipped by for Dimitri's victory.

I'd like to play it again as it seemed to pack alot of punch for a filler.

This is a great game with a lot of though and bluffing in it. I get more fun out of being the fellowship player. I love trying to sneak frodo around. and i love that feeling of getting those instant kills.

The only thing frustrating about it some times it just comes down to a 50/50 chance of should i play a str card or a text card.

Definitely agree to this. I apply this to strategy as well even now that I know all the pieces. Even after ~15 plays, I still refuse to look at any of the BGG strategy posts about this game. So much more fun to explore the strategies by experience.

Week 4 (Jan.22-28)

Jan.22 - The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game - We played again with different decks (Spirit, Leadership) and won handily. I think we may have played Eleanor's ability wrong, but we probably would've won anyway. I really think this game would be great with player-built decks. I will definitely be picking this up soonish.

Jan.23 - Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation - I'm on a little bit of a Lord of the Rings kick, so we pulled this out. I got this in a math trade a few years ago and had never played it. Andy won as the Dark characters when he got three guys to the Shire. It's a neat little game, but I'm not overly fond of games with a bluffing element. It plays very quickly and I'd like to give it another shot sometime.

Total Games Played = 2
