It's been at least 25-30 years so my memory of what specifically came first isn't great, but this is one of the first non-PB/MB games I remember owning.
Then probably 15 years or so ago I went through a bit of an M:TG phase which may have been a stronger hook.

I'll need to know ahead of time in order to set up a scenario Screw it, I'll put a scenario together and be ready to teach and run just in case.

1982. I've only heard a few passing references to this game. The campaign aspect both sounds cool, and also like a big commitment, which I might want to avoid.

This game is a great way to play squadron vs. squadron in a simplified, yet somewhat realistic way. It doesn't have a monstrous amount of complexity, like some of the flight games out there, but the planes are individualized to show their uniqueness. Right now, I've only played the basic game. Once I play the advanced game with the role-playing factor thrown in, this probably goes up.

Campaign rules are so developed in this boardgame that actually TSR sold it as a role-playing game instead.

Labyrinth: The War On Terror is historically inaccurate & politically biased. It's the one popular game that violates BGG's requirements to keep politics out of gen. discussion. And yet it receives special treatment =US-centric views of this site.

Heavy wear to box. This is the only game being auctioned of "as is" - I simply can't tell from the instruction booklet if it's complete or not. Comes with foldout map, instructions, maneuver cards, airplane tiles, and other player aids. Box has heavy wear - three torn corners and general heavy wear.
However, game IS complete. Thank you Colls for the link. I checked the components against the list and everything is there.
A few notes about the components: Half of the white maneuver cards were roughly cut, the other half are still as single sheets. The plane markers look VG with minimal wear. The other player materials look as if they've been handled, but still in good condition. The instruction booklet has a couple of small oil stains on the front, but it is solid and intact. The map is intact, not torn, with no pen or pencil marks.
No reserve.
Based on the listing of another BGG seller I'm now going to offer a BIN of $20.

This added a RPG element (really, TSR and RPGs?)--as your pilot survives, he gains advantages over rookie or less experienced pilots.

This is a neat one that factors the strengths and weaknesses of each plane and creates a clever 3-dimensional combat system with a role-playing option for the pilots.

Dawn Patrol - TSR c 1980
This item looks practically brand new. Very minor scuffing to the corners of the box. Unpunched and uncut. The instruction manual still has all the cards inside of it. The paper map is in gorgeous condition. Looks like it was unfolded maybe once just to stare at its beauty (twice now). The plane counters are unpunched and gorgeous as well. Im afraid to touch the thing its in such good condition.
Starting Bid $10

I got this as a Christmas present when I was in 9th grade. It took me over 20 years to get it on the table, but when I did, I found out why I wanted it in the first place: good game.

No review, which is a shame, because short of picking up sticks and hitting each other out in the garden, this is the only up to 20-player wargame I have ever heard of!

Before I discovered the game group, I would periodically play a game at home solitaire. I wasn't much for reading rules (at the time), but after 25 years on the shelf, it was time to figure this one out. I learned the basic game. This is a good game that deserves a more looks.
Rating: 7 Comment: Played a game of basic and really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to learning and playing the advanced game (I'll update the rating with it).

Another WWI title from back in the day. Yes TSR, really did do more than role-playing games. Many forget that Dungeons & Dragons actually started out as a miniatures game (Chainmail, Greyhawk, etc.)
Why were dawn patrols along the Western front inherently mode dangerous for Allied pilots than those of the Central Powers?
Spoiler (mouseover to reveal): "Beware the Hun from the Sun": A common tactic in the days when the only sensors an aircraft was equipped with was the Mark I eyeball was to approach your enemy from the direction of the sun, so that you could see him, but he would not see you. And since the Allies would fly their dawn patrols from the west side of the front and the Germans from the East, "Jerry" had the advantage.

After finding the last two, Iwent to look at other stuff. I went to the checkout but the line was long so I decided to go back to the games to see if I missed anything. I did! It was also on my want list! This is partially punched with minor box wear. $1.99 at Savers.

This would have to be my most valued game. Or technically my three most valued, as I now have my original copy, a second copy that I bought when I decided to come back to the gaming hobby after a decade and couldn't find my original, and a third copy bought new in box at Gen Con last year, just so I could have a mint version of the game (the first two were bought second hand, with resultant wear and tear).
As for why it's so valued, first of all it's one of the games I most enjoy playing. It's been OOP for 28 years, and the Dawn Patrol community (chiefly the Fight in the Skies Society, named after the original version of the game) is incredibly tight, featuring a newsletter and annual convention.
