I might have to think more about my other two entries. Are we just nominating our top 3 games? I'm assuming this has something to do with March Madness and College basketball, but all I know about basketball is that it's played with a basketball.
Pound for pound, the amoeba is the most vicious predator on Earth!
This is a tough one for me. Age of Steam is gloriously brutal, but Hansa Teutonica is pure mind candy for me. I think I will probably have to go with Age of Steam, simply because I think it can make it farther in the tournament.
Come on the mighty Seagulls! Puching for the play-offs ... but not sure we want to win them!
That's weird. This bit used to mention Shire Games, and tell you all how wonderful we are. But it seems to have got deleted. Let's see what happens this time ....

Of course I would like to play Age of Steam... at least twice... There should be a copy in the official library and I am sure that someone will have a big box of expansion maps around too, just in case.
My great grandfather was a railroad conductor and the pocket watch he used during his work was passed down to me. I took a snapshot of it along a game of Age of Steam - it seemed somehow appropriate.
Dunno that *I* would want to play it every day for 20 years, but there's enough of a learning curve, and enough variation in the maps, that it certainly takes a very long time to hit master level, and even then there's probably new things to learn. I know there are people who play this every single day, even multiple times a day.
Dice aren't the only way for a game to have luck. There's also luck in what cards you are dealt, or what dominoes you pick up (also see Pai Gow, and Mahjong), or what letters you pick up (Scrabble).
In the sense of having total control? No. In the sense of being able to win against a lesser player 99%+ of the time? Yes. The dice are a small portion of AoS; significantly less so than Titan, which is itself less luck-dependent than, say, Poker or Bridge or Backgammon Cribbage, which are lifestyle games already.
I spent 100 Geek Gold and all I got was this lousy overtext message!
I better put this one in lest I piss of the purists. It's a great game no doubt and one that certainly bears more calculation and thought than RRT/RotW. Well supported with plenty of expansion maps from around the world, this one has a strong following among the rail gamer games. It's still my number two choice over RRT though but that's just personal preference. Maybe it's the lack of plastic bits.
Krautrock (progressive electronic music from Germany) is a perfect match for most train games for me. The constant chugging and thumping of the bass guitar as well as the mesmerizing drum beats correlate well with the train theme. Neu or Kraftwerk are wonderful for these types of games.

Leo took off and Sierra went to bed with Vincent, and I found myself playing a train game.
This was mine and Kevin's first time playing.
This is also the first game in forever that I've had trouble wrapping my head around right away. Part of this was that I misheard a lot of little things during rules explanation, part of this is that I threw myself into the remote part of the map that didn't pay off until the third turn. Up until then, during those first two turns I had hardly done anything, and so was not getting the full esxperience and it didn't click right away how what affects what when done. In the end, though, the remote area paid off thanks to all that track building.
