So much more story oriented that we even started an Amber diceless campaign. I remember the awesome character creation rules:
GM: "Strength is the most important stat in the game, if you don't have strength, everyone will kick your ass. Now bit for your stats". *furious bidding* GM: "Endurance. Endurance is the most important stat in the game. If you don't have enough, everyone will outlast you, and then kick your ass. Now bit for your stats". Everyone: Hey!!
I'd avoided the stat race and had a character loaded with skills like trump making. We only played a few sessions. It was a bit tiresome in tabletop because no one trusted each other and everyone kept wanting to talk to the GM seperately. But it still rocked.
How it ended Petered out after a few sessions as well

No list would be complete without this game. Set in Roger Zelazny's Princes of Amber novel world, this was one of the first, if not the first RPG to not use dice.
If he had been interviewed for this geeklist item, Roger might well have said, "As a young toddler, I put dice in my mouth and nearly choked to death. Since then, I have always feared dice, and when this RPG game was coming out, I nixed the idea of dice. Actually, my exact words were 'if you use dice, I will kill you'".
A surviving designer (Eric Wujcik) came up with a point, attribute, rank, and Dungeon Master resolution system.

This book is probably best described as "Very Good". It is lightly used and read, but it is a 20 year old soft cover book. I'll even throw in a copy of Shadow Knight. This book is also in good condition. There is one small divot out of the spine, but the book is intact.

Chain: Star Siege
This Entry Is Now CLOSED
The winner of this chain gets to choose from one of three different exciting prizes!
First is the title item of this entry, a physical copy of my precioussss, AMBER Diceless Role-Playing.
It is in exquisite condition, with just some coloration by age on the edges of the pages. My other copy is a bit more, um, worn, shall we say, so I'm keeping that one and giving you the good one!
Now that may not strike your fancy, since clearly you are a man or woman of discriminating tastes, so you already own the physical copy of this book (or two copies, like me). Well, there's still something here for you! I will purchase you a PDF copy of either AMBER Diceless Role-Playing
or Shadow Knight!
This way you can access it no matter where you are. I will send you the link that is good for one download from Drive Thru RPG, so we avoid any of the touchy issues with handing off digital copies of books.
If for some reason this doesn't strike your fancy (since you're either a non-believer who has yet to be converted to Amber OR you already have all the PDFs too), then I offer up my last old school item, S1: Tomb of Horrors.
It is the 1981 reprint shown above, in good condition, with a bit of a crease in the upper right hand corner of the cover. The cover is, of course, detached, to allow for use as a map. The rest of the module is in excellent condition.
Now, I am including one extra rule for this particular giveaway, since the chain I won was absurdly generous. This entry will have three winners. Yes, you heard me right.
Three Winners
I will give away each of these items! The primary winner will get his or her choice of the three (and will be the one to continue the chain), the secondary winner will get the choice of the last two, and the tertiary winner will get the last prize.
Now, just in case you are the secondary or tertiary winner and only wanted one of these find prizes that is already gone, you're probably thinking you don't want to take something you don't want when someone else wants it more. If that is the case and you choose to pass on your winning, I will offer a consolation prize of 10 Geekgold. It's not much, but it's a small thank you for making sure these items find a good home.
Act Fast! Winners will be announced on Wednesday, 22 February AD 2012!
Which is today, so our first winner is
Simon Silva Jr.
United States Carol Stream Illinois
Second winner is
Billy Compton
United States Boiling Springs South Carolina
And third winner is
Kendall Merriman
United States San Jose California

The Children of Oberon
This game is not altogether successful. In particular, the diceless system, while pretty cool in theory, doesn't work all that well in practice. What makes it memorable is the setting, Roger Zelazny's word of Amber, and the great characters he created to populate it. All of the members of the royal family of Amber are fascinating, but two in particular stand out for me.
First is Corwin, the narrator of the first series of five books that Zelazny wrote about Amber. Corwin is ruthless, ambitious, duplicitous, often unlikeable, and yet utterly irresistable. His attempt to win the throne of Amber drives the plot of this series. I have a T-shirt with a Corwin quote from the books: "I am the soul of honor, kindness, mercy, and goodness. Trust me in all things." The joke, of course, is that he is none of this. The punchline is that the character he says this to, Dara, turns out to be even worse!
The other character is Corwin's sister Fiona. While she often aids Corwin, we are never sure exactly which side she is on and that is how she wants it. She has some great lines in the books, including one that shows up on another T-shirt that I have: "... and I, of course, am innocent of all but malice." Fiona also has a strong presence in the second series of five books, the ones narrated by Corwin's son (by Dara) Merlin, in which she serves as a mentor in sorcery to Merlin.

The next three campaigns in my list all started out strong but never got up to speed. The first was another attempt (a dozen years later) to do a game using Zelazny's Amber as a background. I'd picked up Amber Diceles but wasn't yet ready to move all the way to a completely narrative-based diceless approach. I tried a homebrew system (the roots of what would eventually be Action Cards). The premise was persons in a modern setting discovering they were orphans of Amber and getting embroiled in the weird dimensional shifts happening in their world. It went well for a long time, but a couple of the players didn't like the setting and the complexity of it. I went through a series of contortions trying to bring their interest back into the game, at the cost of the rest of the group's interest and my own desire to run the thing. After less than a year I shut it down. We had some great stuff come out of the campaign, and it is the one my wife most requests coming back to again, but there's still a little sour taste in my mouth about it.

Free shipping to CONUS, etc. Game is in good condition with mostly shelf wear (I'm trading my good copy away as opposed to the one I use while playing).
This is my favorite RPG ever. I will be very sad to see it go. Even though I have two copies! Go figure.
