Ok, that’s it. To all publishers out there; send these guys all the review copies you can. No way that it doesn’t boost sales. Thanks guys, you have not only given my hours and hours of listening entertainment but introduced me to some great games.

I bought this game in early October 2011, when a local gaming shop had a moving sale. I'd read reviews and heard that the game was fun. I opened the box and the game looked stunning. However, the game looked extremely fiddly, with all the little bits, blocks, and counters. I just couldn't bring myself to learn how to play it, or bring it to the table.
Finally, in January 2012, my friend convinced me to try playing it. I can't believe that it'd been sitting on my shelf for months without being played. It's a great, thematic game that tells a different story every time I play it. Lots of fun, I'm now introducing it to all my gamer buddies.

Played as the Defender for the second time and was able to eek out a win. We originally thought the Invader won but reviewing the rules the next day I noticed that he hadn't in fact breached the walls. In our defense, we were both tired after half past midnight, and it was time to call it quits anyways.
The more I play this game, the more I'm enjoying it. I've now played the introductory setup with 3 different opponents and I feel that the game is wonderfully balanced. That being said, it's definitely time to move onto the random setups.

I'm not sure if this is game would qualify as a "wargame", but I played a game of this last night against
David Pavao

.
It was a learning game for him, as I'd already played a few times before. I chose the Invader and he was the defender.
The first day of the seige was spent preparing for the assault. Orcs were sent to cut trees, and a ballista was set up on a western rampart. The defender prepped some defences, and lay down some traps.
The second day saw more prep work, a catapult was built on an eastern rampart, and goblins were sacrificed in order to arm the catapult with a bloodstone. A saboteur was placed in the workshop to distract the defender. Spotting trolls in the invader camp, the defender built a troll cauldron, as well as promoting some warriors to veteran status. Some invaders positioned themselves in the western and eastern foregrounds.
The third day saw the first wave of the assault. Four trolls made their way to the wall section that had previously been hammered by catapult stones, and killed all the defenders there. The officer on the wall managed to deny the breach. Goblins archers on an eastern rampart peppered the walls with arrows, and the ballista helped to thin the defenders on the western walls.
The fourth day resulted in a second wave of attackers, mostly orcs, rush the walls on both sides of the stronghold. The defenders scrambled and once again prevented the trolls from breaching the wall section, despite a troll call summoning another troll to that area. A group of orcs managed to make it to another wall section, where stunned defenders looked on as 2 orcs prompty exploded, destroying the stone walls supporting the area.
By the fifth day, the troll contingent managed to breach the eastern wall section, and the defenders were forced to evacuate the stronghold.
I love this game. Every time I play it, it tells a story. My opponent also liked it enought that he's challenged me to another game of it on Tuesday of next week. This time he's going to be the Invader and attempt to exact his revenge
