I prefer the changes made to this game when it got re-printed as "China". Mike needs to make an entry for China and while he is about it "New England" and "San Marco".

I said it before: not often you see a game that has so much to offer in so little time and explanation. A gem.

I think this is the poster child for this list. Quick and easy to explain, but very interesting.

Or you can play China as well. Web of Power you can play online. It has a lot going on for such a simple game. Again you only hold three cards in your hand and with the Web of Power you only have 2 cards showing to draft from, or from the top of the deck.
I think it is the best card driven area majority game that I know of beating out El Grande and even Twilight Struggle IMO just for its incredible elegance and depth. TS has an awesome theme and the El Grande Tower and overall look of the game is pretty darn kewl Nonetheless Web of Power or the Kardinal and the King or China whatever you want to call it has big kick for a such a small foot print.

Condition:
English Rio Grande Games version. Excellent, like-new condition. Almost no box wear to speak of. You could put shrinkwrap on this and give it as a gift! (Although the bits inside are in plastic baggies; the game has been played.)
Shipping: I'll cover shipping in the continental US. Outside of that, I'll pay the first $10.

What a terrific game this is! I'm a big Michael Schacht fan, and I think this is my favorite among all his games. It's especially good for 3 (and you can finish a game in 20 minutes.)

Twelve years old and I still love playing it. Bought it the year it was released and must have played it 70+ times.
For a 40 minute game, this offers incredibly tough tactical choices. Can be cut throat, as you can cut opponents off completely from scoring their cardinals, so you have to observe all plays carefully. Matched only by 7 Wonders as a 40 minute thriller.
Very good gate way game, but also decent with eurosnoots.

Over on Table Three, Tim transparently continued his quest to pad his five and dime list by enlisting Rachel, Leif, Caleb, and Scott to play his fifth game of Web of Power this year. Of course, Web of Power is a classic game in its own right, so we hardly need any other reason to bring it to the table anyway.
This game was dominated by Leif's awesome advisor network; he was able to score all five connections from Frankreich, which meant a bunch of additional connections amongst those other five countries as well. He only had a few cloisters (although he tied for the win in Frankreich, which was worth eight more points), but he probably scored upwards of fifty points just from advisors on his way to an easy 70 point victory.
Tim was trying to build an advisor network of his own, grabbing an early position in England (which was soon closed out) and Lothringen. But just when he needed to consolidate sole control of Lothringen and build to Frankreich he couldn't find the right cards; there were two turns early on when he ended up with three different cards, which meant he couldn't even move into the key countries with a joker play.
Another problem was that he didn't have an early position in Frankreich, so he didn't have any control over how many advisor spots were available. (That's why the penalty of a single play when you are first in a country is not necessarily all that punitive; the first two players in a country usually can control when more advisor positions open up.) So Tim had to concentrate on getting points via cloisters - he got a 4-chain and made some efficient second place plays, and finished in second place with 50.
Scott and Rachel concentrated on the east, while Caleb was jockeying with Tim and Leif in the west. Rachel used a long seven-chain of cloisters to grab third place with 46, while Caleb's final play in Aragon gave him some additional advisor points and allowed him to finish with 44. Scott had very good advisor connections throughout the east, but did not have much cloister equity and scored 40 points for the game.

Aside from rules this is language independant. Its a Michael Schact game that was the pre-cursor to China. If you like China this is the same type of thing but set in Germany instead. Very cool game.

Mary brought in this classic. I know and love China, but have never played the original. Thus it killed me to see this on the table while I was involved w/ Urban Sprawl. Matt, Frank, and Marcus were the other players.
