Mostly because it's a great game, but also because I have the cool, late-1990s super edition. Six players, 90-120 minutes.

3M edition from 1963 (copyright with the instructions in the inside cover). Complete and shiny. Plastic tiles, no letters on the hotel markers. The stock cards look and feel as though they've never been used.

Finally tracked this one down (1962 3M slip box version). Got it for $3.93 at Valu Thrift in St. Paul, MN. I was wondering when I would run across this one, since this store is so close to 3M. Still need to inventory, but looks promising.

Nice! I've only found one 3M version in two plus years of looking. Like you I would've thought they would pop up more often in St. Paul but that certainly hasn't been the case (at least for me). Let us know if you have the plastic or the wood tiles.

It has plastic pieces, but they are all there. So, that is a plus. The money tray needs to be re-glued to the box so the tiles don't slide under it, but other than that every thing seems to be in order. Can't wait to get it to the table.

Shocked this didn't get mentioned yet.

I have a personal interest in "emergent" games where something really nice happens after gameplay seemingly in spite of the non-directed open ended nature of the rules. And I can think of no better example than this game. T&E has it too, but its rules as noted are nowhere as simple as this one. Complexity is definitely Low, and I suspect depth is closer to high than medium.

One of my favorite, all-time games. I've had about 8-10 different copies go through my hands as I've upgraded sets through the years. I currently own a 3M edition with wood pieces, and a 3M edition with plastic pieces that's been signed by Sid Sackson himself.

I've been playing and enjoying Acquire for about 20 years. And I've yet to win my first game.

This would be my most recent eye opener. I never had a chance to play Acquire until recently when a new gaming friend of mine brought it up a few times and I finally acquiesced. So glad I did, what a great game! I now am the owner of a good condition 1963 copy of the game via eBay. Best part: My wife loves it too!

I would like a 1999 copy. I have seen the pics and I think that copy looks great. On the other hand I am a bit of a box optimizer and I like the size of the book shelf box (it fits nicely on my game shelf). Also, I am not willing to pay what the 1999 copy seems to be going for. My 63 copy is in great shape so I think I will stick with it.

While I know this is probably the least desirable of all the Acquire game sets, it was hard to pass up for $2.99 in mint condition, with many of the pieces unpunched at Goodwill.

I don't think you paid too much, i probably would have paid up to $10 for it. If it wasn't for your collection and you were reselling now would be a good time too. The prices on amazon have gone up a lot lately, so they're selling well there. Ebay not so much.

SOLD to ecs05norway for $8

Condition: Complete. Game and box are showing its age, but in generally good shape. Best that I can tell the game is the 1966 English Edition 3M Bookshelf Edition with plastic tiles and yellow playing board (box lid is dated 1963).
Weight: 3 lbs

Games with dragons, spaceships, and bears aren’t wargames. Call them conquest games or strategy games or crap but they aren’t wargames.

I really like this one. To bad I don't know what I'm doing while I'm playing. Doesn't get to the table enough.

A classic I will be getting shortly and trying out with petra and her folks. Old school classic gameplay will appeal to them and very very clever. Can't believe I have never played this

For me, this is a "lesser of two evils" decision. I'm unlikely to play either game. But I own Acquire and have played it--and even though it has features I generally dislike, I seem to remember liking it well enough. And it's a board game (albeit with cards), not a card game.

Too many players required for either game, but I'll stick with Acquire.
