First published in Strategy & Tactics magazine #110, Hastings, 1066 is a tactical simulation of the confrontation between William the Bastard, Duke of Normandy, and King Harold Godwineson of Wessex... a battle that forever changed the face of the world, as the victor became King.
It works fine solo.

A Richard Berg magazine game of the famous battle: Harald's fyrd and housecarls vs William's archers and knights. A pretty thorough study of the battle; Richard calls it more simulation than game, but it's pretty cool and I'd like to play it again. 2 player and at least 6 hours, iirc. It's a "long shot", no pun intended, to get this played but I keep trying. Will teach, but we need to schedule it so I have time to re-read the rules.

My only Berg game. Fairly intense and interactive game and good as a simulation. Asymmetrical forces and both sides are interesting to play.

Major battle dates should be easy to find. There's at least 6 others with 1066, all about the Battle of Hastings.

A turning point in English history. I'd like to ask King Harold why, after so many wise decisions throughout 1066, is he marching everyone down to die? Why throw it all away?
First post on the geek, and happy to be here!

I don't know if any Battle of Hastings games feature Halley's Comet. I doubt it. However, Halley's Comet is represented on the famous Bayeux Tapestry as a fiery star. The Bayeux Tapestry is used as the artwork for many Battle of Hastings games. The comet was a bad omen for Harold but a good omen for the conquering William. Preserved accounts state that the comet appeared to be four times the size of Venus and to have shined with a brightness one-quarter of the moon.
English Benedictine monk Eilmer of Malmesbury may have been one of the first known people possibly to have seen the Halley's Comet twice.
The Irish and the Chaco Indians in New Mexico may have also seen Halley's Comet in 1066.

This was my first and only magazine game until I picked up Victory at Midway. I believe its an excellent simulation and I enjoy it as a (rather longish) game also. It's also the only Richard Berg game I own.

1066 used to be "the date every schoolboy knew". Sadly, I can say for sure at least in America, most schoolboys have no idea whatsoever about this battle. Ok, that's enough of a rant on the lack of geography and history knowledge among today's youth. Hastings certainly was a pivotal battle in history, but only 3 "Hastings" games listed.

Oh man... to see it all unfold on the field of battle would be amazing. I was in the UK back in 2000 and I visited Hastings, Pevensy and Battle as part of my trip. I even walked on the battlefield too. I would love to be there on October 14, 1066!
