West over water I fared bearing poetry's waves to the shore of the war-god's heart; my course was set. I launched my oaken craft at the breaking of ice, loaded my cargo of praise aboard my longboat aft.

I generally prefer traveling with card games. Nights when you have three players is not an easy niche but The Bottle Imp and Haggis are very good.

"But for Wales?" [I wonder if anyone will get that. I suspect Fred will. Al probably. No idea about the rest of you lot.]
Souls were sold and (sometimes) reclaimed at the next table during puzzle strike.
Edit -- I didn't mean to imply Dennis doesn't know it. Since he regularly stomps us at trivia. But I was just thinking of attendees.

This game is incredibly straight forward to understand, but also both challenging and fun. At least in my mind.
The three different groups I've played it with have all had a really hard time grasping the concept and really just play randomly, and don't really enjoy it much. (And mostly these are regular gamers).
If they just didn't like it, I'd understand, but they just can't seem to get their heads around it.
Admittedly I have had one person who was at least intrigued enough to want to keep trying it. (Of course this was at my work group, and that person has a job elsewhere now).
I haven't given up yet. I love the game.

Dave was in a big hole after the first round, but made an admiral comeback. I avoided the bottle all game.

A quirky card game that I don't like enough to own, but that I'd be happy to play.

To finish off I introduced Rob and James to another card game.
"You have to follow suit but the highest card wins the trick regardless of suit unless someone plays a card below the current price of the bottle imp in which case the highest card below that value wins." Or something like that.
James scored in the 50's all three hands. Rob ended up with the bottle imp the first two. Unfortunately for James he was dealt a disastrous last hand and got stuck with the imp which allowed Paul who had scored in the 30's each time to sneak home by a few points.

"Very good, fun, simple, trick-taking game with massive swings in the scoring from round to round - you can lose a lot of points in a single round if you mess up or someone screws you up."

Paul (Hiko), Ian, Aram and I played. First time for me. I thought it was interesting, and worth playing again. Paul (Hiko) won...though it is worth noting that he was the only one of us who knew what he was doing in this game. Well Mark, in the audience, also knew...

Just one hand of this for Andy, Paul, Andrew-B2, and me-- an interesting little trick-taking game that would take a few plays to get your head around.
