This is one of my family's favorite games and is easily my number one game to suggest to friends with young children... Or at least it used to be. Prices now have risen to crazy levels.

The fact that adults can play to their FULL ability and still lose resoundingly to kids, how fierce the tension can be, and how much laughter can be had when Mom/Dad finds it extremely hard to pull out that big blue egg while the youngest quickly and easily pulls out a tiny little yellow egg... This is such an excellent game to play with kids and really needs to be reprinted.

I could just kick myself for missing out on this one. We had a copy sitting on the local game store shelves for something like three years in the discount area. Virtually unknown. I was on the verge of buying it when one of the clerks who worked there at the time told me it was "just a kids game, and not worth the effort."

Wow. I think I would really enjoy it, and if not, I suspect I could trade it to someone who would.

I found 2 brand new copies in Prague game stores late in 2011. One was even on sale

Kept one for myself and shipped the other to my brother half way around the world, so his kiddies could enjoy some Gulo Gulo goodness

This was brilliant. I think I could whip this out on family days very easily, even if dad has had a few. A reprint with Velociraptors would be the only way I could see this being improved. My friendly neighborhood game store clerk hosted and taught this one. Thanks Jason! I was beaten by someone one third my age again. Ouch.

Elaine Wikipeed out some startling facts about Wolverines. Also, there needs to be a mechanic to punish table knocking (Which I was not innocent of) Maybe loose a hex worth of progress? 2 if serious?

Cute little kids' game that supports up to six players, with these little plastic wolverines...none of which are green. Admittedly, the traditional colors are reserved for the game board itself and the wooden eggs, but if you've got a teal wolverine, you could certainly have a mint-green one.

This game is well loved by parents for a reason.
Its cute, is scale-able, and teaches Anaya about egg predation.

This game is adapted from an old bar game which was played with a cocktail straw, an olive and a bowl of peanuts. Never too early to train your daughter to be a drinking game ringer!

This game easily scales shorter, with tiles taken out to decrease the track length.

Gulo Gulo is most amazing for its inherent age related handicap. Anaya's tiny fingers can remove nearly any egg from the bowl. By comparison, my mitten like claws only interfere with the delicate extraction. She wins this game with some frequency.

2x RoadZters
1x Agricola
1x Vanuatu
1x Innovation
1x Illuminati
1x Castle Panic
1x A Few Acres of Snow
1x Puerto Rico

A very good week of gaming with a lot of different people. I started out the week with 2 solo games of Mage Knight. Then, on Thursday at the last minute, I was able to get out to my FLGS to play a game of 'Gric and a 2-player game of Vanuatu (I still say this plays better 2-player than 3-player). Friday night, at a second FLGS, we played a game of Innovation followed by half a game of Illuminati. While it'll never rate a 9 or 10 for me, I really enjoy playing Innovation. You can't take it too seriously but there's enough meat there to make you think. "Gamer's Fluxx" is definitely a good description of it. We played Illuminati as a 6-player game and stopped after 90 - 120 minutes. People were just taking too long to decide what they were doing. While that isn't bad in a thinking game, in Illuminati, it just sucked away whatever fun could have been there.

This year I'm going to try to be better about recording the games I play with my kids. Saturday, my 6 year old daughter and I started by breaking out Roadzters. We played two games with me winning the first and her squeaking out a win in the second. While I think I prefer Pitchcar, for the price, this can't be beat. She's able to set up the track and then play competitively. This is a game I expect we'll play many more times. Next, we pulled out Gulo Gulo for the first time. While with Roadzters, I was generally worried I was going to leave Cerri behind, in Gulo Gulo I was afraid she was going to leave me behind . Luckily this game has a lot of catch-up mechancis built in, or it would have been a very one-sided game. As it was, she won the first game and I won the second. Finally, we ended up Saturday with one game of Castle Panic. While it's not my favorite game to play with the kids, they really like it (which is weird because by the end of the game, they are usually bored of it). I was really proud of my daughter on Saturday. She usually gets distracted by the television but this time, all on her own without any comments from Daddy, she decided to shut off the television so she wouldn't get distracted. It was very cool.

Sunday, we played Gulo Gulo one more time before going bowling. Then, Sunday night, my friend, Geoff, came over and we played a game of A Few Acres of Snow. He played the Brits and it was his second play. He started out with a plan of avoiding getting too many locations in his hand but then ended up with a lot of military without being able to figure out how to advance his goals. With a few lucky early draws, I was able to fortify and then hold Louisburg and then was able to keep him from taking it. I eventually won by expanding and then upgrading to the west before triggering endgame with 12 village/city points. We then finished up with 2-player Puerto Rico where Geoff kicked my butt by getting the Factory plus tobacco (and coffee) and then generating a lot more income that he was able to turn into two 10-point buildings.

I like Innovation, but haven't been able to get it played in awhile. I need to force it on people more. Since I haven't been able to play Innovation much, I haven't bothered to pick up the expansion (yet). Have you played the expansion?

Since I'm a developmental psychologist, and there was a thread about this, I'm curious as to your opinion on letting kids win. Sounds like you won some of those games. Thoughts on playing games with kids, letting them win, adjusting your play style to suit their level, etc.?

I like Puerto Rico but haven't played it as much as I'd like. I've never tried the 2-player variant. Is it a good PR experience?

My parents only occasionally played games with us, but my brother was five and half years older than me, and could handle me at pretty much any game. He never let me win. In fact, he enacted a rule when I was fairly young that "the loser cleans up." This was a trick on his part to ensure that I always cleaned up since I never won against him.

We used to play 2-player Risk all the time (yes, I know it's not fun with that number, but we didn't know any better). I still remember the day I beat him. I even remember why - because he couldn't trade in a set when he had four cards towards the end of the game (if you know the game, hopefully that makes sense). It was one of the greatest days of my life. He started to get up from the game at the end expecting me to clean up when I just said, "Wait a minute. Loser cleans up." To his credit, he put away the game without complaint.

As for my parents, we generally played things like Mille Bornes and Pachisi (called "Ludo" in our household), which had a high degree of luck. I don't think they let me win, but it was perfectly feasible that I would win.

Chess wasn't really played in my household. My dad knew the rules and not much else. When I developed an interest in chess in junior high, I was able to beat him (legitimately) within a month.

So random thoughts. If I ever have kids, I won't feel bad about beating them mercilessly.

I rate kids games with a view to playing with my kids. I would probably rarely play this with a group af adults (unless teaching them to play with their own kids) but to play with my own kids I love it. I love the way that finger size increases as decision making ability increases, providing the perfect balance between old and young. Though I reckon 6-8 is probably the optimal balance between the two.

"A great dexterity game with some added additional strategic decisions - and an off the wall theme - makes for a great game for adults and kids to play together. I feel like my fingers are sausages when I try and pry out that illusive purple egg. Fun game.

With even more repeated plays, this game will never leave my collection - it earns a 10. Quick, fun, anyone can play. What's not to like?"

I like to teach and teaching board games is no exception. Also, one of the things I like to teach is that non-video games are fun, too for adults and kids alike! So a fantastic kids game like this is something that needs to get to my collection. A damaged or scuffed box is fine. Components I'd like to be in at least fairly new shape and definitely complete.

Thanks so much!! This list is awesome!

If anyone needs extra eggs, just buy some Peanut M&Ms. (We always end up having to buy some after playing because that's all we end up thinking of when we're handling the eggs)

Rio Grande version. OOP, might be reprinted....might not.

Played. Components in good shape. The rule book is very wrinkled.

Starting Bid: $30

I will be at Unity from 9 or 10am until 3pm. I will ask for your cell phone to speed up delivery at Unity.
