One of these days.....
We will reach maximum players.
We've had a full table many times, but that was when I was teaching at an alternative school and ran game nights for students. I'm now married and under a massive workload at a different school. All my awesome gaming brothers have similar situations (partners, high pressure, time consuming jobs) and it is very rare that six adults will sit together at the table. One day, it will happen.

I'm probably going to get booed off this geek list since I don't know if wargamers consider this a war game. BUT I LOVE A GAME OF THRONES! If not this I'll pick Small World

I personally love the Second Edition of this game, and wouldn't change it in the least. However, if I could go back and have these games now redone as block games, it would rock my socks off. The theme (IMHO) is a very large and engaging world within the Ice and Fire series; one which I would recommend to all.
Personally, I would just love a block war game made out of this, with similar gameplay as Battles of Westeros, but with more of the Fog of War aspect. I can only imagine the scenarios would rock as well.

Pretty much the same thing as with The War of The Ring. I ended up buying a copy as soon as I could when the reprint came out.
Unfortunately I haven't played it yet to try and list the differences - if any. Regardless, not a "new release".

Scorecard for the Week/Month/Year as of 10Mar2012:
13/21/96 plays of 6/10/52 total games, with 4/5/15 expansions employed. Plays with 16/21/55 distinct opponents.
5/5/8 games acquired (plus 2/2/3 expansions.) (Owned and previously played: Outpost and The Castles of Burgundy; newly played this week: Timeline: Inventions; unplayed expansions: Power Grid: The Robots and The Castles of Burgundy: New Player Boards. And the two unplayed games I mention below.)
With the I've been Diced! guys: 1x _6.7_ Bongo! - Not a complete game; it was a momentary diversion. Still, the other guys needed to talk Paul down from requesting Yet Another Roll... 1x _7.3_ A Game of Thrones plus ports from Clash of Kings - This was our main event for the evening. The game was a more static affair than I remember seeing in the past: part of that may have been the event card draw (we went several turns without a muster, leaving us with subjectively-insufficient forces to do much damage.) It was entertaining, but the end-game proved less compelling than I've seen in the past. In fact, had this been my first game, I might well have rated it poorer: since it isn't, though, I'm willing to forgive. (On that front, though: I wonder how many other games I've rejected on an initial randomly-poor showing? Several, I imagine.) 1x _10_ Race for the Galaxy plus three expansions - We used to play a lot of this - though not so much after the third expansion came out (While it entertains me a good deal, I think we weren't universally sold on the Prestige subsystem.)
With my family: 1x _8_ Outpost - With my boys. This one was provoked by the enthusiasm of son #2. Son #1 doesn't much like exponential growth games - he prefers things where the decisions are a bit more subtle. Still, he was kind to participate to amuse his little brother. 1x _7_ Timeline: Inventions New! - The same boys - but this one worked a bit better. Even if both weren't nearly lucid due to fever. Fortunately, I'd tweaked the starting hands to leave us roughly even in the end! 1x _7_ Timeline: Inventions - This one with my wife. She thought it was pretty cute. Though whether that means she'd play again isn't clear at all.
With the no-longer-on-Fridays gamers: 1x _7_ Alea Iacta Est - Worked pretty nicely. In retrospect - given how beat up the cheatsheet that describes the set of SPQR cards in detail is - I'm surprised they chose to make that of flimsy paper, rather than something more substantial. I wonder a bit whether I'll ask the same thing of Ora et Labora in a year or two! For me, it was interesting to compare with The Castles of Burgundy: both are a do-the-best-one-can with dice thing. This one is dramatically more trivial - though possibly more accessible as a result. I don't think any of my new-player colleagues felt shortchanged by the experience. It wasn't significant, either, of course: Ben wouldn't have liked it. But then again, I'd be surprised if The Castles of Burgundy would work well for him, too.
With the friday night youngsters: 1x _6.7_ Bongo! - First time with the Game Warden cube. It's harmless and teaches easily. 1x _7_ Timeline: Inventions - This one is similar in terms of "ease of explanation" - but definitely fires a different set of neurons. I may be over-rating it at this point; we'll see how it holds up over time.
Owned-and-unplayed: 24 (+2 for this week: I added Hoax and Seeland to the pile this week.)
Outlook for the week: Flying to Ireland this week. I'll be there long enough to miss DJ & Tom. Not clear what is in my immediate gaming future - though it's possible that the Ireland board of Ora et Labora might happen next weekend...

I LOVE this game, but it's hard to find the time to play it. My normal game group is willing to play it every couple of months or so, which is good but I'd love to play it more. So I look forward each year to going to a local gaming con because I know I can always find a group willing to put in the time to play it and am guaranteed at least one game of it while I am there. But this year though my experience at the con was almost enough to make hang up my Valyrian Steel for good.
The group that agreed to play with me ended up being made up of 3 brand new players who had never played it and 1 who had played it a few times before. I had to explain all of the rules to everyone and, so that the game would be better, I added in some strategic points to help them out (see how powerful your navy is, watch out for chokepoints, etc.) this took a while but I was willing to do it to get a game going. The game starts and the group does what a lot of new players tend to do when faced with a complex game with lots of decisions: they attack the most experienced player, me. To be fair, I did some attacking too, but anyone who could attack me did. I took it in stride at first, I mean you gotta be ready to be attacked if you play this game, but they were ruthless--throwing swords at every contest and my Baratheon card stock didn't let me counter enough of these. So by turn 5, I was almost wiped off the board (4 units and 2 ships left) and an unchecked Lannister has amassed 5 castles--even though I was warning everyone about this and reminding them that attacking me made no tactical sense anymore because I was no longer a threat. Finally the somewhat experienced player decides to ease up on me and join me trying to stop Lannister, but the other 2 players continue to attack me and now my new ally. When I asked why they were doing this, one says because she and Lannister had a truce--I reminded her that there is no second place, only one winner but this did not stop her. The other says that he was attacking me since I had attacked him back in round one, I reminded him that he had returned the favor in every round since then and that killing me again had no tactical value--he didn't care. One turn later, Lannister wins. This is one of the few times that I have actually gotten angry while playing a game and was ready to sign off on playing AGoT ever again, but upon reflection I have decided never to play AGoT with Noobs again.
