Dominion was such an immediate hit with my family that I needed to order an expansion. Prosperity made the original that much better. We really liked the addition of the larger treasure and victory cards....and little metal coins!!!

Both this and the Seaside Expansion add a few extra components to the otherwise card-centric deckbuilder. Use of the vp tokens, embargo tokens, gold piece tokens, trade route map, and other pieces are still completely dependent on the associated cards being present in your 10 Kingdom cards for you to have a use for them.

one thing I thought was interesting was how poorly Throne room did vs. how good King's Court did. basically the same thing, just more expensive and more powerful, but the problems of Throne Room aren't addressed by the King's Court(not having additional action cards to play them with)

Goons should win because it stands alone. You don't -always- want King's Court. You always want Goons.

Yes, I think King's court is being seriously overvalued at this point.

I'd rather have goons, monument, and grand market over King' court (if given the option) but it would be sweet to have 2 King's Courts and those three cards.

Yes, I want goons more often. But when KC is powerful, it's incredibly powerful.
That said, Monument is really underrated : City and Grand market are trap cards, Wharf/Big money kills Grand market/Big money, and city rushes are often too slow. Relative to cost, monument should be the third better card for me.

I've never played so many three Province-per-turn buys as when Grand Markets are around. Goons can't boast that. It's a good card with Militia fused to it for no explainable reason. More than any other card, if someone gets Goons and someone else doesn't for at least one more cycle, the early Goons player wins. Totally boring. Should never have passed play-testing. Definitely not the best card just because it is an auto-win. Worst card because it is an auto-win.

I seriously wonder what the people who vote Goons on top think makes for a good game.

Exactly. Cities aren't the pile that need to be empty. Any other card that both players will snatch up as much as possible (Minion, Fishing Village, Caravan, etc) will work, or, I don't know, CURSES? Or an Ill-Gotten Gains game, where IGG and Curses run out at the same time usually... and so on and so forth

And of course evaluations change for colony games... let your opponent buy all the cities in a colony game (which won't be over before he does) and see what happens

I do think trade route is limited, because you can get in situations where you can't use it, because you don't have a card to burn...which is where remodel came in handy in my game, once I got rid of the estates, I turned it into something else. But Trade route does have the nice benefit of possibly being worth more than 1.

Mountebank : the best for me, but really close to goons
Goons : As for mountebank, one of the best dominion card.
Loan : I really like it, another slightly underrated card.
Watchtower : 90 percent of the time, I don't buy it, and I'm right.
Contraband : the big trap card. The worst for me.

Goons is clearly the worst card. Not in usage but in its mere existence.

I also like that aldaryn says Contraband is over-rated when it has zero first-place votes. And I completely agree. More than any other card, I smile inwardly, contemplating my inevitable win when an opponent buys one.

There are specific cheap cards where it's a race to buy them all if the 5+ are not so great, and Talisman shines there. Caravan or Fishing Village, for example.

It is a situational card, for sure, but can be very good. And of course amazing with Highway, as has been said.

Yeah, Expand has been way over-rated by most people here.

I actually rated Bank second, after Monument of course, because I believe there are a greater number of layouts in which it will be a valid force (ie. anything without significant trashing)

I'm a bit surprised Quarry is floundering this badly...but it is a pretty strong group. I used to love Forge, but I'm starting to cool off of it, the exact equivalent requirement makes it difficult to use at times.

So many of these cards depend on the set. If King's Court or Goons is in, you bet I'm buying Quarry.

Quarry is good early game, but weak later on without cards to give extra buys because by then you don't actually need the Quarry's effect.

Agricola bumped Dominion off the top of our shelf. Besides the original set, we also have Intrigue, Alchemy and Cornucopia.

I know, I hear you. "Really, another Dominion expansion?" It would get a lot of play. I like the Colony(?)--"gee, I guess I have to settle for a Province."

What about...

IMO this is the best expansion of Dominion. I own base, Intrigue, Prosperity, and Hinterlands, and I've played Seaside. I have yet to play Alchemy or Cornucopia.

Definitely worth getting.

I like to try to build very efficient engines, based on as few action cards as possible. Therefore, I was surprised that I actually liked Cornucopia, which rewards a deck with diverse cards. Fun.

My sister gave me Prosperity for my birthday. I was a bit concerned that the addition of platinum/colony would warp the game and make it feel too different. It turned out to be a great expansion. My wife loves it and insists we play with platinum/colony every time because they make the games a bit longer, add a few more strategic decisions, and create higher scores.

My rating - 8

We split into two groups to start the night. Phil, Mike, and I started light with some Dominion. Pretty even mix of Prosperity and Hinterlands cards with two promos (Envoy and Stash) thrown in for some variety. Mike got synergy going early and ran away with a three pile depleted win. Scores as follow.

Mike - 48
Rich - 33
Phil - 3
