Box is intact and in EX/NM condition, with no split corners and less than average wear for a 30 year old copy of this game.

All counters and cards are present, having been personally verified by myself. Cards and counters are sorted; trade cards show some wear from handling but are still quite usable.

Editie: Gibsons - Editia in engleza.

Nivelul de dependenta lingvistica: Some necessary text - easily memorized or small crib sheet

Transport: Gratuit oriunde in Romania folosind Posta Romana. Jocul va fi ambalat impecabil pentru a nu suferi in urma transportului.

1) Get some 10mm Ancients miniatures of the respective cultures.

2) Get some ancient boat miniatures.

3) Get some cities, like those from Conquest of the Empire or the '99 edition of History of the World.

4) Make enlarged trade cards, using scans of each, and utilizing ArtsCow to make playing card-sized cards.

5) Make an enlarged board using satellite photography.

I keep trying to think of a witty comment to post since this is right after Advanced Civ (hopefully, if I didn't take too long)...but I got nothing.

Oh, but as for prices in the marketplace, I thrifted my copy of Civ! Yee-haw!

Any other edition isnt worth nearly as much as the avalon hill edition pictured, due to its compatibility with the (really expensive) expansions like advanved civ, the extension maps and the extra trade cards.

Ah, thanks for the explanation, does the Advanced Civ. make the game so much better?

That's a source of much disagreement! I've not played Advanced Civ other than on the computer, because the people I play Civ with all like the original the best (and they've played lots of both, so I trust them).

Also, the "problems" that Advanced Civ tries to solve, like letting everyone buy all the technology cards, and adding more conflict, are not problems to me. Those are good features of the original Civilization, so I can't imagine Adv Civ being preferable for my tastes.

I have the 1st edition of this with the three photographs on the cover. I was planning on trading it for Combat Commander: Europe. Am I undervaluing it or is only the 2nd edition collectable?

Indeed, another Finals Worthy matchup.

I'm going w/ the memories of those 12 hour Civ-a-Thons of my misspent college youth here. A friend and I would trade every other game as being either Africa or Egypt. Left unspoken was that the sole aim of Africa was to make Egypt's life a living Heck. Our machinations to achieve this end put Diplomacy to shame. Brutal, but exhilarating times. Of course, neither of us would ever take the 'easy way out' and play say Assyria or Babylon.

I've seen similar talk when one person is playing both Advanced Civ and another game (in this case, 1870) at the same time:

Game A, Player T: Looking to trade for Bronze.
Game A, Player R: I have Bronze. I need Gems.
Game B, Player J: T, your turn to run the KATY.
Game A, Player T: Hang on a sec. I don't have Gems. I have Spice and Dye.
Game A, Player C: I can use Spice. Do you have Cloth, T?
Game A, Player T: No Cloth here. This will be quick... (runs to the 1870 game at the next table)
Game B, Player T: I upgrade Topeka. Place tile #63 there.
Game B, Player G: (grabs tile #63, and places it on Topeka)
Game B, Player T: I have a 3-train and 4-train. Together, they run for $27 a share. paying out. Not buying a train. (runs back to the Civ game)
Game A, Player P: I'll trade you Bronze for the Dye. What else can you offer?
Game A, Player R: Trade timer has expired. Who has the Volcano/Earthquake?

Six cloth and three dye, 15 credit from this card and 10 from that card, carry the two... That leave seven cards in my hand... Finally, after 15 minutes I have the perfect advancement purchase... Darn, the last one was just bought up... Guess I'll start over - hope this won't slow the game much... eight iron, four bronze and three spice, 20 credit from this card and 5 from that card, carry the two...

Unlikely to play much due to length and problems getting 5 or 6 other people to play.

Also: Scepter of Zavandor for similar reasons (although finding six of us to play this is somewhat more likely than Civ).

We manage to get Adv Civ on the table at least once a year (see the session report just posted) but most would like it to happen more. As often happens, 9+ hours of play scares many off and our committed 7 this year had 2 back out (1 the night before!) so only played with 5.

An annual game of this (at a minimum) is a given.

This one is easy...

1) Come to Harrisburg, PA.

2) I GM the tournaments at PrezCon and WBC.

3) Online play available at civ.rol-play-com

Yea, it's geeky, but you can run the old AH computer version of Adv Civ on the iPad (or just plain old DosBox for PC and Mac). It runs from DOS, so starts up fast, and can be overclocked very nicely to speed-up those long computer AI turns.

We used to play this roughly annually and would gather 5-7, dedicating the entire day, sometimes multiple days, and never finished one game all the way. Every minute, every round was fun, and time simply disappeared! My number one pick for a snowday/prison/desert island game when you want to kill time happpily! Otherwise I'd much rather play shorter games that pack more punch. Still this game haunts you and long after you swore you'd never play it again it will call. . .

Bought this and played it a few times as a student. This is the box cover I had. I enjoyed it, but could rarely find anyone else who wanted to play for more than a day.

What do I think of Western civilisation? I think it would be a good idea.
