All-Star Baseball
Version pictured (1989 edition) Box for All-Star Baseball is honestly incredibly beat up (crushed top and bottom, split edges) but all of the components are there and in playable condition.
Keep Pursue the Pennant for yourself and give All-Star Baseball to your kids - they'll love it!

I've played several seasons of the Royals, and some 16 team mini-seasons- who has completed entire ML schedules for any given year? And only the board game, mind you, with scoresheets and stats. I've logged 1000's of games, but not an entire scheduled season. Anyone?

I've tried almost all of them, and Dynasty League baseball is the best one. Loved Statis Pro for the pitcher fatigue- one of the best out there - but Dynasty tops in all the other areas.

I also brought this along to pass the time on the airplane, but since it had no board, it was easy to play a game in the hospital. I had set up a small mini-tournament of the 1950s teams, and we played one of the games.
This was our last game.

Two more games to select. At this point, I could either go through the 59 games I've rated an 8 and figure out which 2 (ranked outside the top 200) to include. Or I can go back and include the 2 "legacy" ratings that I skipped over earlier. These are games I rate very high but no longer play at all.
I haven't played Pursue the Pennant for probably 15 years, but from age 10 through my early teens this was THE game. It earned a 10 for life.

This is actually for Dynasty League Baseball, but the moderators stubbornly refuse the accept the games are different. The best baseball sim out there, bar none. Games in 30 minutes, can even play with my son.

Snider played in the Majors briefly in 1947, then was called up permanently by the Brooklyn Dodgers partway through the 1948 season.
In his first full season (1949), Snider was one of the team leaders as the Dodgers claimed the National League title. Snider would be a driving force for Brooklyn as they would make 4 additional trips to the World Series between 1952 and 1956.

Decided to do some thrifting today. Stopped by a bunch of GW's and a few thrifts.
Decided to go to GW oulet. Never been to this one. I walked in just as they were opening up a new section to peruse.
Cycled through all the new bins and grabbed a bunch of games. Took em to a corner to inspect them and ended up wanting 6 of them. Assumed they would be $1.49 each, as was the policy at the other GW outlet I had been to. Nope, they charge $1.39/lb.
So got this one for $5.13. Stupid thing weighed almost 4lbs. Might not have bought had I known they were going by weight.

This is the 2000 edition book containing the 1999 stats. It also contains the 2007 season cards, the color book and charts. An all-star team has been punched out of the cards and the generic stats have been punched out of the book. The charts and spiral book are in a 3 ring binder. The cards were used sleeved. The punched cards will be shipped in a metal card tin.
My shipping policy for this is flexible: If it costs more than $15 I will request something in return (a little money, or geekgold) which you have every right to decline.

I have always wanted to own this game since I saw it In a Street and Smith's baseball annual along time ago. Usually it was a Strat-o-Matic add but this looked different.

Sunday was Car Wars and Santiago, both discussed earlier in this Geeklist.
After lunch, Alan Reeve and I played a Cubs/Sox game of Internet Baseball League rules (Similar to dynasty or PtP). The Sox got out to an early lead, but Buerhle got shelled. The bullpen settled things down and I had closed it to 8-5 when Foulke decided that he'd give up another six runs.
Baseball simulations always have to run the delicate balance between complete simulation and simplicity. More accuracy usually requires more detail which means more charts. I'm not a fan of all the charts and looking things up. But it was an interesting time.
The drive home was challenged as I had had a flat tire during the weekend, so I couldn't drive faster than 50 mph on the donut spare.
I'll be back at the next Hoopla, running a bunch of games, some old, some new.

In the final 6 weeks of the 1951 season, the Giants stormed back from 13-1/2 games back to catch the rival Brooklyn Dodgers on the final day of the season, forcing a 3-game playoff to determine the National League pennant.
