How about an unpunched, unplayed copy of The Fury of Dracula? All charts, counters, rules, and screen are pristine. The metal miniatures are still in their original bag with the original dice. The box shows minimal/negligible wear, although the right side of the box "pooches out" a bit, creating a small crease on the top edge. Obviously, that's pretty insignificant compared to what's inside!

Still one of the best "Where's Waldo" games out there. As with many GW games, FFG re-released it when they acquired the license to GW's boardgames. Your call on whether it was improved or not.

Zustand: Vollständig, Karton mit ein paar Lagerspuren (hat ja schon ein paar Jährchen auf dem Buckel), aber ansonsten in bester Ordnung und selten gespielt.

Sprache: Englisch

Porto: Versandkostenfrei in Deutschland

It is the edition pictured.

All the pieces in the component list in the rulebook are there, but it just says 'sheet of counters' in the list.

There are a boatload of counters in the box, but I can't be certain that they are all there. I tried to go through and make sure all the ones they list are in the box, and they were all accounted for. There is one hand-written chit...a 'Mist' chit that is hand-written on one of the blank extra chits that was in the box.

My buddy and I bought copies of this when it first came out in 1987, and we've played it literally hundreds of times over the years. Other games come and go in our rotation, but this one is unique in its staying power. (Don't ask me about the FFG remake - I don't think it's in the same league as the original.)

The Fury of Dracula

1987 (Games Workshop): 7.07 x 762 = 5387.34
2006 (Fantasy Flight): 7.31 x 5185 = 37902.35

Massive: 43323.35
Average: 7.285

Latest English: 2006

Three or four hunters (depending on the edition) seek out the Count across Victorian Europe, but the Count's moves are all hidden. This game of deduction and combat drips with theme, but there was criticism of the Dracula player being able to cheat to easily, by accident or intent. Fantasy Flight's new edition is probably the most drastic change between any two editions on this list. Which game is better is still a dividing issue.

Almost everyone seems to think that the FFG edition is superior, with the notable exception of Sphere, who is quite vocal (in a forum way) on this issue.

Just FYI, the original only had three hunters. Mina was added later and then incorporated into the FFG remake.

What I've heard is that the "weenie" method of playing Dracula works best in the original version, especially with the random day/night roll, so it encourages stalling, essentially, since you're never guaranteed to have an advantage in combat.

This is a valid complaint, because strictly by the rules it's the best way for Dracula to play in the original version. The problem is that it isn't fun for anyone. So if Dracula's goal for the game is winning at all costs (instead of making sure everyone enjoys the experience) you can run into problems. The FFG version has pretty much removed this possibility.

And sorry for dubbing it the "weenie" method, but I don't know how else to describe using a degenerate strategy to maximize your chance of winning in what should be an atmospheric, team-based game. (Winning at all costs can suck the fun right out of many great board games - not just this one.)

Quote:
In the FFG version, I've seen Dracula get aggressive because he is very strong at night, particularly if he knows what weapons the hunters have.

In the old version, there is incentive for Dracula to be aggressive too - in fact it's part of the victory conditions - but he needs to be very careful to weaken nearby hunters with encounters before striking.

The FFG version makes this a much more predictable, back-and-forth affair. During the day Dracula runs, at night he hunts. I understand how many people could prefer this balance.

Hmmm... I must have misread that. I'll have to look at it again when I get home.

It seems like such an odd way to phrase it then. Why not just say that Hunters with dogs win ties rolled for initiative? The +4 seems very specific for what ought to be such a simple effect.

Having now looked at the card again, you guys are totally right. Much more balanced than I first assumed. Back into the game it goes.

Nice list logopolys.

I never bought the FFG version, so I'm intriged by this thread.

Shameless plug: I created the Mina add-on for playing with my kids and friends and posted it on the Fantasy_Vault yahoo group. It was later posted here on bgg before having it taken down by GW. Nice to see that some people played it and remember it.

The month of Halloween is coming: I'll be replaying FoD soon

Very rarely, but occasionally. I picked up Fury of Dracula about two years ago at SELWG for £5 I think. This year I got the first edition of history of the world and Merchants of Venus for (about) £4 each at the Rampage. I also picked up Gibson’s Civilisation in a charity shop (need to add this me thinks). A few years ago I picked up White Bear Red moon for a pittance on a bring and buy (Salute I think).

I inspect...he doesn't want...now I own 2 copies as he didn't want because it has sat unplayed for too many years. Great game.

I know it's not a popular opinion, but the new Fury of Dracula is embarrassingly better than the old one. In that you don't have to have Dracula not "play a certain way" to actually be an enjoyable game.

I don't think it's cheating (I would have given that as the next clue) and you have the right answer. Checking geeklists about Spanish games could have helped too.

For those wondering, the words to be guessed were:
Spoiler (mouseover to reveal):

Lar (Spanish statuette of Roman divinity)
Rec (Spanish horror films, which I believe did well outside of Spain)
Con (Spanish boardgames con poster)
Kiss (Spanish actor Javier Bardem kissing Julian Schnabel)
Star (Spanish beer, ok Catalonian if you must)

This is for a copy of the limited edition 1987 version of the game. All pieces have been counted and verified to be complete including the original miniatures. The box has wear on it but it is still in very nice condition with no punctures or major damage to the box.

Starting Bid: $30
