I like the names -- although I must admit that I don't get the "N."

The names for the pentominos were made up by mathematicians, who knows what logic they use?

I would do all the things I have ever dreamed of doing. I would love to become a professional whistler.I'm pretty amazing at it now, but I wanna get, like, even better. Make my living out of it.

Being curious where Friendless got these standard names, I did a quick bit of Googling. This url matches John's naming above as well as orientating the pieces to give you a better idea of naming reasons.

I call the F "tap" (you have to turn it 90º to see why) So I guess it's F for "faucet"

I've seen the pieces referred to by a letter-number combination, where your L is called L5, your short L is L4, your 3 is I3, your crooked 3 is L3, and so on. This, to me, seems the most elegant.
