You get +1VP for each Country you control adjacent to the enemy superpower. Not just battleground countries. Check the player aid card scoring section.
I remember only counting battleground countries adjacent to super-powers and I only remember you getting points for it in Central America. Do you distinctly remember scoring Afghanistan? I don't. And not just in the last round, but ever. Finally, I remember every other detail about the final Asia scoring that game because it was important and it was the last region. So, in fact, I think I won the game. That's all I am saying.
Because this has been a very roundabout and untimely way to answer what was originally a pointed and specific question raised the day after, "We musta scored it coz we shoulda!" is not sufficient to disuade me. Hard to remember now. Honestly, I'm not sure what we did. I don't remember counting the defcon status either, which I usually put back to zero after counting it in the other turns.
