It's ... curved! Surely, you are pushing foamcore into places it has never been before. Exceptional!!

Construction details! How is the round board sitting within the framework? How do you glue the curved walls together? Full schematics!

This is really making me wish the English version didn't have a square board.

You can put cuts at intervals into foamcore in such a way that the cuts don't go quite go all the way through the board-- basically a series of deep scores-- and then you can curve it and perhaps cover the scored side in paper to hide the cuts. If you look carefully at the inner curve for the tray, it looks like that might have been done. Can't tell what was done for the mapboard. It looks like it was done with segments.

You can, of course score flat cardboard this way, too.

And those are nice mods for the board and storage trays.

The "Mars Board" lays flat on a cutout piece of foam core that has a slightly larger diameter so that once the side rails are clued into pace, the baord isn't to tight within the circle.

I generaly like to "elevate" game boards off the table just to make them stand out more, but in this case, I'm actually thinking of a variant where one could launch from Mars to get to another planet (just for the excuse of having to build another one of these "planet platforms") and maybe have it a bit higher on the table, just to simulate a diffent orbit or something... Anyway, just thinking outloud here. Bruno, if this idea can inspire you to come up with an expansion for this game (if you think it's a good idea). Feel free to use it (would be an honnor). I would buy it in a second...

Maxime

The first versions of the game were using the moon as an intermediate step between the Earth and Mars, and also a place where some extra points could get gathered, but it made the game longer and unnecessarily complex, so we get rid of it.

Makes sens. But I can imagine that once converted into game mechanics, (like you said), it probably demanded more than 10 turns to make it worth while for anyone to want to go there...

Ah well, maybe in the initial release, it was too much and I can understand that you didn't want to take the risk of slowing things down or making it to complex. Maybe an expansion is still an option for us players who wouldn't mind sticking arround beyond turn 10 and exploring other areas. I know that I'd be interested. Adding new characters (and abilities) and a new location/planet.

Funny you should mention the moon being used in you initial concept. I've just added an image on BBG of my version of the cemetery (using the Moon). I know it's a bit far to ship the bodies of fallen astraunauts, but I just wanted an excuse to use it somewhere...

PS: J'y pense, vous devez surement parlez français M. Faidutti. Tout en voulant respecter la langue d'échange de ce site, ça fait du bien de parler (écrire) sa propre langue de temp en temps ;-)
