I like the photo - but the depth of field blur looks peculiar somehow. Was this done with the camera, or an editing program?

If you use the "close up" feature of many digital cameras, it gives you a very narrow view of focus. This is for pictures of flowers and the like (or for that matter, Formula De cars which are smaller than you might think).

The fact that you can easily make out individual print pixels on the road supports this.

Correct. It's just a close up shoot and I only enhanced color balance and light exposure.
