Could you explain how exactly you made the rings?

Did you:

- first heat up the washer (using a blowtorch or something) and then quickly press the hot metal to the wood

- put the metal down on the wood and then heat it up (maybe with a soldering iron)

- do something else entirely?

Using a curved needle-nose pliers, the fender washer is placed on a red hot electric range for about 15 seconds or so, then removed and placed on the board. After it burns for about five to ten seconds (aw, the delightful odor of burnt oak!) the washer is removed (with the pliers, of course!) Do not attempt this unless you possess excellent fine motor skills, are well-rested and sober! If you are married, you'll need an understanding spouse as well.
