Please ... please don't tell me you painted those shields by hand!

So how'd you do it? Damn nice work by the way, just excellent.

Awesome! How did you get the 3D look on the blue shield?

I give the secrets away on my site at http://www.io.com/~beckerdo/minis/miniother/BattleLorePainti...

Basically, I downloaded some heraldry, and printed it to decal paper. The file is available at my site above. Once printed, your simply cut out the shields, soak in water, and slide off onto the model. Then clear coat your models to fix the decals.

Dan, these are very nice - thanks for the tip, I'm going to use this idea on some miniatures I'm painting up for C&C: Ancients.

Thanks folks. Please, note the shortcuts and save yourself some time as well. 1) No special details on any of the units, 2) Simple drybrushing over black. No multiple layers or shades, 3) Decals on shields are simpler, most times faster than painting, 4) No special basing, just drybrushing the already textured bases. Finally, great visual effect can be acheived either by small numbers of extremely well painted minis or large numbers of serviceably painted minis. In the case of BattleLore, go for the later.

Yep. It's the Hill Giant. As of the time of the photo, I did not have him painted, so I put him close and severely out of focus to make him look mysterious and sinister.
