I assume the side walls are four separate corner pieces? And you had to make more pieces for the flip sides of the boards? (There are flip sides aren't they?)

Great foamcore work as ever!

looks cool, and I thought the board was much smaller, so thanks for showing us how big it really is! Uh, wait! That´s not what I meant, erh...

EDIT: By the way, I recently trawled through all your uploaded pictures... A lot of nice work, including a few ideas I might try out myself...

I've been copying MVDZIGN's designs for ages, they really enhance your games.

Yes, the side walls arn't joined in the center. The 4 boards align with each other (just like the 2d board) to form the complete board.

I've only made one side of the complete board so far. Not sure if I'm going to do the other side yet since it's more of an outdoor setting with cavern walls and stuff. I don't feel that foamcore walls would make a great solution for turning it into 3D (not without major decor enhancements anyway).

If the game gets moderate playing time over the next few weeks, I'll se what comes to mind for an outdoor solution.

Thanks again for your feedback UH. By the way, great job with your Puerto Rico foamcore project. Now a fellow gamer (who owns a PR copy) want's me to build him one of your sets cry

Sorry, no downlaods. This procedures alters permenently your game boards so be sure you are up to if interested in going 3D.

Materials used are black foamcore, white bondfast Lepage glue, cutting and x-acto knives (sharp blades) and a steel ruler (better cut lines) and cutting mat.

As for instuctions, figure the height that you want for the walls. I made mine just a bit taller that the miniatures (1 and 5/8 th of an inch) so as that you don't get the impression the minis can peak over the wall ;-))

Then cut the foamcore pieces at corresponding lenghts that you need and then glue them directly on the board along the printed wall lines.

NOTE: In order for the walls to stick permenently on the board, I scratched the glossy surface (using an x-acto knife) in criss cross patterns where the wall comes into contact with the board. This way, the glue sinks in the creases and the walls stay put. Not doing this may cause the walls to come loose.

At a glance, this could be percieved as a lot of work, but I think it brings a lot to the game. I wouldn't go back to 2D...

Good luck if you decide to go for it.

Just saw you work with Space Hulk (white foamcore). Good stuff.

So I guess I don't have to tell you what you're getting into after all ;-)

That really adds nicely to the game. I espeically liked the CaveWorks for the setting on the other side of the board. You should pick of Shellendrack Manor(WWG) for the wall detailing on the complex.

The only real problem I see is that some of the foam core walls are interfering with the pathfinder positions the figures sit on.

Good stuff though.

Boy adding walls sure adds to the visual appeal of this game.
You should pick up Shellendrack Manor to fleashout the wall paneling
and the props. Heck, it might be cool to just add a set of Pathfinder
Circles to a Shelledrak layout for an alternative setting to play a CTF
or Domination game on.

The only problem I see with your creation is that some of the foam core
wall is overlapping areas where the figures sit.

This is great stuff though!

Hey thanks for the tip.

True, the walls seem a little bland with so much detail on the floor. There's practically no limit as to how far one is willing to go to customise the map. The "walls overlapping circles" issue isn't that bad since the figure bases are smaller than the Pathfinder rings so in most cases, still fit in the partly hidden circle.

Hope to see someone elses version of a 3D setting. Might give me some ideas (and drive) to push this project a little further...

Regards,

Max ;-)

I do not have my game yet (should be next week) but, I have been thinking of doing the walls in 3d as well. My idea would be to get a piece of plexi-glass and lay it over the game board and glue the foam/walls onto the plexi-glass itself rather than the actual board (this way, if people want to play the original 2d, they can resort back to it if need be...just lift off the plexi-glass and set it aside!)-

If I actually get this done, I will display pics of it. I am still wondering what to make of the "outside" terrain as well. (We shall see)-

Good idea!
Plexi will also flaten the boards if you have a warping issue.
