sounds from the notes as if you're allowing slaps on split pairs, which is not how I ever played. Now I have to see which version of the rules BGG goes by.shake

Several of the times I've played with, we've played the split pairs rule (which has always been called the "sandwich" rule). Some people play with it and some without it.

Speaking of which, you could have slapped on the second eight in your initial pile of junk -- another sandwich.

That's listed along with Q8Q on the right.

The reason "no one notices" the slap possibilities (which will almost never happen in a real game) is that I managed to TOTALLY forget about slapping (I know, seriously!) when I was making this image. I only remembered it at the end, at which point I didn't want to retake the photo with slapping involved.
