This is a nice tip, but I'd like it to be more in-depth. How vigorously do I defend my final base? I'd hate to be the overly vigorous one at the table.

The tip doesn't even seem correct. You can win with no bases, as long as you still have some units, right?

I just wish other game companies would follow FFG's example. I really could have used a tip to vigorously try and get more victory points if I found myself in last place the first couple of times I played Settlers of Catan...

Actually, no, you can't, except from a single case.
You can't aqquire conquest points if you don't control their territories with a base, and almost all of the special victories require you to control territories.
The only way to win without bases is if you are Aldaris and two "the end draws near" has been drawn.

Page 18 states clearly:
"An eliminated player may not qualify for any victory condition."

But indeed, you are not eliminated if you still have units, even if you have no bases.

Well you always need a centre of operations. If you had units and no bases sure you could build a new base but its rules.

The only way to win without bases is if you are Aldaris and two "the end draws near" has been drawn.

Since the chatter for this image seems to have been resurrected...

- There are many ways to win without bases.
- To control an area, all you need is a unit. You do not need a base.
- So you can gain conquest points without bases.
- Even if you aren't occupying any conquest point spaces, you can gain conquest points through event card.
- You can fulfill Arcturus, Mengsk, Queen of Blades, Tassadar and Aldaris special victory conditions without bases.

Shouldn't the tip read: "If you only have one base, build another." ?
