Been awhile since I did a redux. Had the pleasure of meeting Ed Beach at WBC this year and learning Here I Stand from him.

Kept most of the functional design, but added my period flavor to this map for a truly wonderful game. Few little experiments here, like using variable fonts for each language zone. Particularly like the addition of power names around the edges, including signatures of each power's primary leader. Please fullview, hope you like!

I already see an error: Calais should be in the French language font. Let me know if you see anything else I messed up.

Cool map! The only thing I can see is that the map doesn't have the adjacency arrows for the northern seas. Not a big deal, though.

I was wondering why the new world riches chart was nowhere near the new world. I love the new map, though. What you did with the turn track is really interesting.

I really like this design. With two exceptions:

- The French font strikes me as most anachronistic. Way more 18th century or yet more recent. Same deal with the Italian font, though in that case the effect is less jarring. That said, I find the basic idea an inspiring design decision.

- I think the Sea Names ought to follow a "wavy" line. Just looks unnatural in the present form. Also, the font strikes me as very 18th/19th century-like. Not least because the letters have a most italic bent, which strikes me as rather uncharacteristic for the 16th century.

Anyway, looking at the wide open space in Ireland I WISH Ed Beach had actually integrated Ireland into the design rather than simply making it a card. Should have been a potential point of vulnerability for the English and invasion site for the continental powers. (Did a house variant to that end). Ah well. I'm sure Ed's upcoming Elizabethan sequel have Ireland.

Also seem to have misspelled Cagliari. Thanks to Joel Koepp for noticing that one...

Just received Mark's final redux map today. What a beautiful map cool I cannot wait for my next game of Here I Stand. All of the changes in the final map, compared to the one above, are excellent design choices for conveying the necessary game info in an aesthetically pleasing manner (i.e. charts).

Love it!!

Could this map possibly be the one released with the mounted reprint of the game?

Amazing work, Mark!

Have you discussed with GMT possibility to put this on P500 list as an alternative separate mounted mapboard for Here I Stand? With deserved popularity of Here I Stand and upcoming rise of Virgin Queen, I think, it could hit the P500 threshold within days. They already did similar thing with new Dominant Species card deck.
