actually is completely in focus but has a very narrow depth of field (the focal point is the hexes and counters in the immediate foreground).
My question is whether the entire photo needs to be in focus (i.e. no depth of fields or other techniques) for it to be acceptable as an image that represents the components or general feel of a game?
In many of my photos I like to single out a component in a game and get as close a shot using my macro lens as possible whilst maintaining a hint of the rest of the game in the backdrop.
Your tastes however may differ. but feel free to check out my other photos!
I agree. The foreground is focused--it was an intentional choice by the photographers. Frankly, I would love to see other images that look as good as this one. Please put your candidates in this thread.
Yep that was 12 Power Grid maps back to back over two days. Worth doing, but possibly not in such a concentrated burst.

Case by case basis, but in the case I would say definitely not.
