I took the picture into Photoshop and used the wand and lasso to select the car. Then I selected inverse and used the motion blur filter at -17 degrees to make the background look like it was in motion. After a lighting adjustment, crop and rotation, it was finished.
It's kind of funny, because I originally took several photos in this series. I had my camera mounted to a tripod and kept moving the car up 1/2 a space at a time. Here you can see the progression:
I then spent a long time in Photoshop overlaying the images. It left a bit of a ghost trail - here it is from my gallery:
But this image was rejected. I looked at some F1 photos on the Web and decided to try a different approach. Very glad I did, because I like the above result much better.
