I thought that this image captured the spirit of my two-year-old playing her favorite game. If you look closely, you'll note that Louie is in the process of claiming one of her chickens and her hand isn't even on the paddle, but she doesn't care. She can play the game more or less right, but doesn't always feel like doing so. Her five-year-old sister (to the left) is an ace at it, though.

I tried to stage a photo like this and had no luck, but caught this one by chance. Of course her hair looks like she just finished a ride in an open cockpit plane, but that's always the way it is at this age!

You can read about her first experience with this game here:

That picture looks like a catalog photo the way it is staged! Great work!

Awesome dude. I just glanced at the picture queue and saw your kid, pure chance. Of course you took 300 pictures to get this one, right

Thanks! Glad you liked the picture, since you're the one who introduced her to this game.

I did take a bunch, but this was the first one and was really just good luck- while they set up the game, I went to get my camera. I saw them playing when I came back and snapped this from outside the room before they noticed that I had the camera.

Then I went in with them and tried to arrange the game, fix the kids hair, and get the lighting for the "right" shot. Those pictures were all horrible.

I like to plan my pictures, but with kids, I think you just shoot a bunch and hope you get something good. I'm very thankful for digital cameras- I'd go broke developing all of my bad shots without them.

That photo is so beautiful (and looks a lot better than the ones of children pulling really artificial expressions on the back of board game boxes)!

Great photo !!!

My baby has 2 years and 3 month, and he is still to young to play this game, but he likes looking at it moving around.

I am hopping about his next birthday; until that me and my friends will continue testing this game.

Thanks - you'll be gaming with them sooner than you think!

After trying to get a posed photo, I agree. Two-year-olds let it all hang out, and this kind of captures that. That's not what I was trying for, but I'm glad that it's what I got.

Thanks! I can't get my two-year-old to pose on demand, so any expressions I get from her are the real thing (and they're not all this happy).

Let him try it! My daughter was 2 years, 3 months when she first played. She didn't get it right (see my session report), but she had fun and felt like she was participating. And, as you can see from this photo, she still doesn't get it (at 2 years, 8 months), but she has fun. We do have to work to keep her from grabbing Louie, but she generally doesn't.

I think that gaming with two-year-olds is more about letting them participate in a family activity than actually getting them to play the game right in any sense of the word.
