From left to right: two size 3 Moais, two size 2 Moais and one size 1 Moai without heardress.

This image is inspired by the Ahu Nau-Nau at Anakena, Rapa Nui. There's one more ruined Moai at Ahu Nau-Nau and they are all about the same size but at least in regard to the headdresses the set up is the same. Below is a great image of Anakena (with kind permission by Ian Parker):

G M K,

I hope, nay I sincerely pray, that you are not chopping up game pieces similar to another good friend of mine who was also a dab hand with a camera.

Jim, it seems the ancestors have heard your prayers. It's purely digital chopping, but hey! Your friend got a point there - it might be more fun to really chop it...

GMK,
Shouldn't the sun be situated a little more to the left? The light that hits the statues comes from their left and not from behind (where you positioned the sun)...

Jeez man, don't get upset... You yourself seem like a semi-pro (given the usually beautiful images you posted) so I thought I could give you some advice. It's sad you're not able to take that advice like a man and I'm quite shocked by this fact.

I'm far from a pro but in case of this picture it's very clear there's something wrong with it. With PS it should be a matter of minuter to move the sun so the light is a little more correct.

There no such thing as a lawn here... Just one big public place called BGG. By publishing images, reviews, geeklists or whatever one leaves the safety of his own lawn and becomes subject to the opinions of other users.

I never claimed to be a photographer myself (so I'm not offended by your remarks) but I don't need to be to judge contributions of others. I'm not a game designer either but I still have the right to judge games, as do thousands of other gamers here. Besides, my comment on your image is justified and I think you know it. This doesn't take away the fact that I enjoyed other contributions of yours very much. It's amazing how you can take such good pictures with only amateur equipment. Just don't spoil it with little flaws as a not so perfect background.

Anyway, good luck with improving your skills. But in the future, please listen to people that give you some justified, constructive and needed advice.

This is an absolutely beautiful photo, I love how it pays tribute to the original, but is stunningly different as well, the shadow from the altered angle of the light source does it for me.

Thank you Colin. I'm very happy and proud of this image: it took over 90 shots to get the right amount of light onto the statues so that no detail of the sculpt job gets obscured and to have the right ratio of back light and direct light. Added difficulties are due the strong light behind the statues, the "sun", which is a lamp behind a semi transparent plastic sheet. For some reason such strong back light makes it difficult to work with the digital macro (in black and white it's even worse) and to get the focus right on as many Moais as possible.
And I'm happy because the image does evoke a bit of the - imo - mysterious aura of the Moais of Rapa Nui and at the same time does justice to very beautiful game pieces.
