This picture won an "accesit" at the International Gaming-Photo Award held this year during the Festival Internacional de Juegos de Mesa Córdoba 2008 (International Boardgame Festival).
I love this picture. How/why did you think about doing it?
Thanks!
Well, I did the picture for the photo gaming award. I spent a few days trying to think about ways of representing components of games in a new way. First I tried to depict Settlers of Catan houses as "real" houses in a "forest" of grass, but that didn't work too well.
Then I though about making ice cubes with dice inside. Those were looking good (I will upload one of those soon)... so I decided to bring that idea one step further and freeze meeples, as they are the most iconic element of euro-games, I think.
It was a bit tricky because meeples DO float. So I had to use some adhesive to keep them in place while freezing, so they ended stuck in the middle of the ice cube.
The picture was taken on a completely dark room with a "LED Key ring" as the light source (I like photography, but I don't have one of those fancy external flashes).
Here it is another of the pics I submitted. The idea for this one came from a friend:
I would buy a large copy of that and frame it and put in in my game room...I love it...what are the chances of getting one?
Your chances are good: the picture I have uploaded to BGG is the original one. If you download the full-size, you will get the 10 megapixels original that will allow for a decent-size print (not sure about how large, check it with your local photography printing shop).
If you cannot download the original size (the link is not working for me right now) let me know and I will send the picture to your email.
If, at the end, you do it, I would be grateful if you could send me a picture of your gaming room with the picture hanging... I'm curious to see how it looks!
