This set of custom Carcassonne tiles was created by one of my buddies who is much more creative than I am. Each unique tile was sculpted out of clay and then used to create a mold. He first made a set out of plaster and then later cast and hand painted this more durable plastic version.

Unfortunately I've only played this set once. At the time we grabbed the tiles from a big box which worked ok. The rule was that you had to take the first tile you touched. Ambrose had a great suggestion in another image thread to draw from a set of original Carcassonne tiles and then place the corresponding 3D tile. I'd imagine this would work very well.

What about having the box of 3D tiles above "line-of-sight" and reaching in like a "name drawing" - of course, you could try to feel what you are getting - but if it was quick and the first you grabbed, it might work! Amazing set!

Where do people find the time in their lives to do this kind of thing?

I am not saying that they shouldn't. I am just green with envy that they have the time to do something so Brillant. gulp laugh

He's a family friend. Our families get together to hang out quite a bit and occasionally we play a few games as well...when we can get all of our babies/toddlers distracted with something else, of course. shake

I'm pretty sure he doesn't have an account here, but I think he occasionally uses BGG for game information. I did link him to the pictures I posted so that he can check out the comments while they have their 15 minutes of fame.

How big are the tiles, out of interest?

Also...

To simplify choosing tiles, why not paint a number on the base of each tile and then draw a chit/counter (plastic/card/whatever) that has been similarly numbered from a bag or box?

There's been quite a few suggestions on how to do this (see the other posts in this thread and the other 3D Carc images). When we played we just grabbed tiles from a box that was out of the line of sight and set a rule that you had to take the first one you touched. Others have suggested drawing from a set of original Carc tiles and then placing the 3D tile instead.

Is there any expansion tiles in 3D or is this just the base game? Be cool to see the lakes with inns, cathedrals, volcanos, etc.
