Hy
this one hit me last weekend. I got a Rubiks as a gift and was playing Carcassonne on my PC when i suddenly had a "brainshift" shake
Was a pita to remove those etiketts but it was worth it
All features are complete and fit each other, the meeples were added to keep the cube solveable with colors, since i am a jerk at this I got all cubes 2-5 but i can`t solve them to save my life, i just love to collect them
I can upload a pdf of the arrangement if somebody cares.
Have a nice day

Looking at this made me curious about a few things. I'm somewhat new to BGG and admit that I've not yet played Carcassonne. (...I know... blasphemy!) Anyway, the picture shows that all the roads meet and there are no dead ends. Is the entire cube consistent like that? Did you have to duplicate any of the tiles? Are there some left over? This concept is pretty cool and seems like it would make a cool game by itself.

PS:I challenge everyone around ('couse i am to lazy atm) to count down the max Score you could get from this cube by putting a meeple on every feature. And of course i would like to see someone doing a 4x4x4 (maybe with River I and II?) and the big 5x5x5... 2x2x2 would be ridicules

Yes indeed! And it would be a lot harder to solve than a regular cube as well!

Lazy bum

So .. if I see it correct, there is only one big lawn, so only one farmer is needed to make the cities count.

This gives us the following scoring points:
city: 78
abbey: 27
street: 54
lawn: 27

which gives us a total of 186 scoring points

Btw: Great work!!!

Makes me want to posess one, too

Great job! I particularly like the way you've put the coloured Meeples on each face so it still works as a Rubik's Cube.

Nope, at least one city is on a different lawn all by itself, Ok makes no difference score-wise, but i wanted to state this
Edit: Just saw that this City is legaly only scored by a red meeple that is on a different cubeface Cool effect...

CPAG wrote:

Yes i know! Realy would like to get my hands on these (and the proposed 11x11x11 But i think doing these in Carc-style would be overkill
The other thing i was thinking about was making the "Globe"
http://www.geocities.com/jaapsch/puzzles/master.htm
in style by squeezing the tiles in shape.

I have got a question to all Rubiks-Masters out there:
Can this Cube (without meeples for colors, and without knowing the solved state of it) be solved?
And could there be more than one solution to the puzzle?

No master here but I can answer your questions:

Yes it can be solved.

Only one solution. (multiple approaches to that solution, but only one)

Thanks for your incredible work! Would it be possible to upload a file that didn't include the colored meeples, so that those of us without the drive for perfection can still play around with the tiles as best we can? I know it still works great as is, but I had to ask. Thanks!

That would be hard to determine without seeing all the faces.

But yeah, it should be possible to use the roads and cities to make each face of the Rubik unique.

In fact, having to "place" the faces would make the difficulty exponentially harder than a simple Rubik cube

Do you have the layout of your tiles?

Challenge part 2: Create a dice that has got more than one solution

Different question: HOW did you remove the original colors? Are there manuals or how-tos in the internet, about how to replace those ettiketts?

nvm: found one at youtube

What comes to my mind is the silly old game The aMAZEing Labyrinth ( http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1219). That game is based on an ever-shifting maze, but you could play it on a cube (especially the 7x7x7 ones mentioned above) and it would lead to shifting the maze pathways in a whole new way.

The Labyrinth's board is 7x7, so it's a good size for a 3x3x3 dice: throw out 4 cards, insert some magnets and get ready to play.
The question is: would it be possible to effictively create and block pathes?
The idea is good - no doubt!

Is that a special-sized cube or did you have to cut the tiles to fit? Seems most Rubik's cubes squares are much smaller than Carcassonne tiles.

[Edit] On looking at the high-res image (saw it initially on iphone) I now see they appear to have been printed and are not the original tiles (too thin). Did you scan each of the tiles?

Yes indeed! And it would be a lot harder to solve than a regular cube as well!

Not really, since he has the colored meeples on them. You could essentially ignore the images and solve by the colors.

1. No its not an original Rubiks Cube but some copy but with a rather good mechanic inside. The colors were also just added by etiketts so it was "easy" to rip them off the cube.
2. I took the images out of one of the PDF files that can be found in the files section. Corel Draw is able to import such an PDF and then you can further manipulate the images, which i did with the 3D-rendered images of Meeples that i found... maybe in the files section too don`t know exactly atm. Than i puzzled away with it.
Thanks again for all your support out there. Im just amazed over this much attention
Have fun
Kolja

PS: i am realy tempted to try this with Amazing Labyrinth, but i dont have a cube here and no good enough pictures of the AL tiles atm... maybe later

Hy there!
So, since the initial release quite some time passed, and to be honest, i often thought about the 4x4x4 or 5x5x5 version but never touched it. So last week we went on a trip and there was this 1-Euro-Shop i went into, and they had big 3x3x3. Each sub-cube is about 2.8cmx2.8cm. Of course i bought it. Initiatly to build a bigger Carcacube, but now i have a different idea. And for that i need your help! I want to build a Cube that fits as a gameboard for a strategy game with a modualar gameboard. Kind of System Vector but with less crowded gamepads so that i can play on a scrambled side of a Cube. Think about gamecomponents: how much are there on a gamepad and what sice do they have. Games like Heroquest and the like come to mind, but i would prefer something different. More like Stratego Legends or something. Please feel free to step up and tell me a game that fits. Oh, just to make sure: i don't want to play with the whole cubesurface. Just the top 3x3 should be used. Although of course in the future the possibility to do the whole 3x3 x6 is tempting and should not be excluded for ever... Games with a Si-Fi Background have slight advantage due to my personal interessts
Thanks
Flashhawk

Ok got no news for you all, but a question the rose up when i read the other CarcaCube thread: Can someone out there calculate the number of possible, legal layouts for these Cubes? Maybe by using some brute force algorithm? Would be ubercool to know this

Thanks for listenig

This is such a cool idea. I have everything from a 2x2 to a 7x7 cube. I'm going to have to give this a try on one of my 3x3s.

So clever.

And this would be a ROYAL "pita" to solve without the colored meeples. Holy cow.

Was it logically difficult to make sure it would be impossible to line up the roads/cities incorrectly?

I don't know; I've never been good with a Rubick's cube. They're always trial and error, to be sure.

I used your layout, because it looked very good... all credits to you!
But i must admit it fascinates me, so who knows? Maybe later 'll try an own layout!

But first, working on my own game

As for the picture

In any case, very creative design... great job!

EDIT: ok, I had some time to spare, but i decided not to go for another Carcassonne design, so... behold my Micropul Cube http://boardgamegeek.com/image/1120549/micropul

THIS IS FANTASTIC!!!

I can solve a Rubik's cube, but ones with actual designs on them are tougher, because the pieces have to be rotated the proper way.... on a standard cube, it doesn't matter which way a piece is oriented, red matches red.

I may make one of these with my old cubes (but never try to solve it... just for looks)

I've just arrived at the same idea last month... published it in instructables... and now I find your version... wich even looks better...

I'm sorry. I've just add a comment in my instructable to link to here.

By the way... ¿what about this pdf file? I want to take a look to your template.
