Could you please post some details about your game.

It looks great! And I have lots of questions.

How many sets did it take to make this board.

How long did it take.

What rules did you use.

How did you print up all the special systems and which ones did you use.

Did you finish your game?

Thanks

Regards

Andrew

Every tile is different in that there are no two systems the same except for multiples of the empty or common hazard tiles. I have 4 copies of the original game and 3 of the expansion. I took the extra tiles from the 3 extra original games I had and pasted over them with custom tiles that I created.

Some of the customs are shown (BBG doesn't seem to post all my up loaded pics) but there are far more not shown yet. Some of the customs are "leader granting" in that they give you a specific leader or "aggressive hazards" like plague or parasitic worlds, some give you specialty technologies only available to the holder of the planet or that can be bought from that planet, some give you specialty trade goods and with them trade contracts. the latter gives you the ability to have more then just two trade deals.

The specialty trade goods do everything from increase ship movement, to heel units, to allow units to take extra damage or some allow units to fire twice or even into the adjacent hex! And there's a mega weapon trade good.

All and all there are well over 140+ systems....I lost count.

We are still playing the game actually as of course a game this massive is sure to take time. We play in sessions at least once a week.

Obviously we using exploration type rules. We've lost many a ship to supernovas and asteroids, even some of the custom hazards such as the pulsar and gravity well.

The most interesting points so far about 4 sessions in, are the close the wormholes law is in place...which changed the dynamics of the game dramatically practically for the Ambers who where surrounded by wormholes (all the tiles WHERE randomly distributed).

And the other is the war between the Sarrdakk (orange) and Hacan (yellow), which was sparked by the "lost colony" distance sun counter found in Sarrdakk explored space that the Hacan won the die toss for. the effort to take this and a boarder system errupted in a massive war.
The Hacan managed to take one home planet in the Sarrdakk system but could not secure their position and could not follow up their momentum with the wormhole closing law which was passed..supported by everyone but the Hacan of course. Peace was established for a time but aggressive trading practices of the Hacan and encroachment by the Sarrdakk forced war again.

The next session may see the Sarrdakk aggression swing toward Sol (blue...me) due to there paranoia over my having secured the vast majority of specialty trade goods...despite my generosity with them.

Thanks for the update.

If I want to go nuts and start making a game of this size, where would you suggest I go for getting all the special systems.

TI3wiki or somewhere else.

Keep us posted on how the game goes.

Are you playing to 20+ VPs.

This is one of the coolest things I've seen here on the geek...

It makes me think of Campaign for North Africa, but hopefully you'll be able to eventually FINISH the game.

How many VPs are you playing to?

They are playing to fourteen apparently. You can see the VP track on the sheet.

Hi FFG. Good to see you are still going.

Amusing to note that at 4 and 4 I'm ahead of you on pieces. But then I've never tried to do grand game like this, only a couple of ten player games with 83 tiles.

Good luck.

Where did you get these tiles? I just went to TIWiki, and they have them, but yours seem to be much higher resolution. TIWiki has small, ugly, grainy .gifs. (I really want to try this...)

There's a really easy way to figure out the exact number of tiles you have.

The central core obviously has only 1 tile because it's the middle. The next ring around, since a pentagon has 6 sides, has 6 tiles. After that each successive ring increases the number of tiles by 6 over the previous ring, the next ring after the first is 12, then 18, then 24 and so on. It's easy to calculate how many tiles will be in each ring without even looking at the board. We already know that the second ring has twelve. It can be figured out with a simple equation 6*x=T. Where value "x" is the number of the ring you are counting and T is your answer, the number of tiles in that ring. 6 tiles multiplied by 2(for second ring) equals 12. The picture has 7 rings around the central tile, so the outer ring has 6*7=42 tiles. A game with 14 rings would have a whopping 84 tiles in just the outer ring alone.

Now you could just use that equation on each ring, get the total number of tiles for each ring and then add them all up together, but there's a simple function that could just tell you the answer up front.

F(x)=(x/2+.5)*(x*6)+1

Where "x" is the the number of rings around the central core. You can even put that equation into a Texas Instruments graphing calculator and it will do the calculations for you. A 7 ring board will have exactly 169 tiles. A 14 ring board will have a mind boggling 631 tiles.

Digging even further
TI3 has 43 tiles
TI3:SE has 28 tiles
=71 tiles for a set
2 TI3 boxes and 3 TI3:SE boxes would give you 170 tiles, just 1 extra for the required 169 tiles of a 7 ring galaxy.

This guy says he has 4 copies of the original and 3 of the expansion, that's 172 from the original boxes and 84 from the expansion boxes for 256 total tiles. That's enough tiles for an 8 ring 217 tile galaxy and a 3 ring 37 tile galaxy right next to it... or two identical 6 ring 127 tile galaxies side by side. If he bought just one more expansion box he would have 284 tiles, enough for a truly epic 9 ring 271 tile galaxy with 13 tiles leftover.

Seriously somebody give me some geek gold or something if you like my work.

it's the modding system - they are to similar. However, if you could put them all together into one ppt or pdf file, you could upload that to the file section of the game, and make everyone very happy here...

Yeah that would be great, all mods in one file with all the rules. That would be very very very nice

Brilliant. Amazing work on those custom systems.

I think this would be so sweet with eight players.

Why is the Sardakk N'orr start spot further out than the others?
