My name is Glenn! Long have I carried Cyrus's hopes and dreams, and now I bear the Masamune as well! Henceforth, I claim them as my own! I shall slay the Fiendlord Magus and restore our honor!
Ohhh man what a good movie! Kubrick was a genius at setting a tone and scene.
Thanks for the clip.
The greatest thing about playing w/her is that no matter how bad a beatdown she gets (cause I out flanked her and ran through her units with ease to the objective point and scored tons of points on mission #2 this weekend ) she doesn't leave the table all pissy and moaning, she gets even more determined and tries harder.
Nice collection. I didn't recognize the bottom rifle or carbine with the built in bi-pod. What is it?
I am not sure that is the correct bayonet for the Brit Enfield rifle. Shouldn't that model have the LONG bayonet? I "thought" the spike bayonet was for the later Enfields.
Also, does your Japanese rifle have the chrysanthemum still on it? The Americans after the war would grind off the flower to show it was a captured rifle.
Philip is right the bottom is an M44 with the built in side fold bayo .
And yes my Arisaka is a true Vet Capture, full blown mum, complete with dust jacket (these were often thrown away as they rattled incessantly) and this version never had aircraft sites (straight from the factory that way) it is of course missing the flimsy bipod though .
As far as the bayo for the Enfield goes, its dated 1944, so I would say it is WWII period. The rifle itself is dated '41.
The top 2 K98's are all matching numbers the 3rd one down is my Russian Capture non matcher for shooting at the range. Dont want to ruin my good ones LOL.
And the Garand is my actual Grandfathers service rifle, all those items are his.
All other rifles are full matching numbers and no import stamps .
Thanks for the compliments .

As a side note, your mistaken on this end, the Americans would NOT grind the mum off, the Japanese did at the end of the war because it was the Emperors Holy Symbol. Thus the difference between a 'surrender' Japanese Weapon and a Vet Capture. The ones captured on the field would still have their mums on it, those turned in at the end of the war had theirs ground off by the Japanese. Hence mine as I said is a true Vet Capture, full Mum .
Nobody's going to comment on that it's only the ballistic plastic inner helmet she's wearing or that it's an 80'ies U.S. woodland camouflage jacket and not a WWII single-color one..? *tut-tut*
If you need to borrow a period WWII rifle gimme a shout.
...
I stopped listening a while ago, but the only World War song by Metallica that I know of is 'One' which is based on Dalton Trumbo's Johnny Got His Gun - a WWI novel. Perhaps your collection needs reorganizing.

Thanks, for the info on the Mum. I misunderstood that for alot of years now!! I also have the Arisaka, but my Mum is ground off. (guess I got the wrong info at one time or another) Got it for $40 at a gun show. That's OK though, I got it for the fun of collecting, but not to make "money" on it.
Also, your very fortunate to have number matching Mouser rifles too!
> "Would have been a much cooler shot in full SS uniform ..."
That you think dressing up in an SS uniform is "cool" says way too much about you . . . none of it overly positive.

Wow..... considering you know nothing about me that's a rather bold statement.
Don't read things on a web posting ment for fun so literal, and don't be such a sensitive liberal. Aparantly you know nothing about slang, and people loosly using terms that can have multiple meanings.
I'm glad you have so much free time and a need for attention that you felt it necessary to post here and belittle me. I hope putting other people down makes you feel like a bigger person and helps you get through your day easier. Get over yourself.
Congratulations for being a buzz kill, I'm sure people must really enjoy your company.
I apoligize to anyone here that may have found my post offensive. It was unintentional to be that way. What I said was not in anyway ment to take such an awful event such as WWII and portray the atrocities that occured as "cool"
There ya go captain BuzzKill a formal apology. If you were insulted, there were many (mature) ways to go about it becides attacking my character.
Now back to my original intention of "cool". If someone were to see a full dress officer regardless of date or nationality there are few that are as impressive or forboding as the SS. My comment of "cool" is directed at the uniform not the "nazi-fascist" wearer.
BTW: If I say that Vikings helmets are cool is that offensive to all the nations that they ravaged during their reign of power?
How about Pirates? according to Disney, Pirates are cool even though they killed, raped, pillaged, stole...What does it say about Disneys character for romanticizing Pirates.....
I'm a sensitive liberal, but I also think SS Uniforms are actually superb in an aesthetic way. Incredible Hugo Boss design. Wearing one playing this game would, I think, add a lot of the atmosphere combined with some aggressive Alsatian dogs slavering around the table, search lights, sirens, a loop of war sounds and screaming, blood paks that explode on the board when units die, lots of goose stepping and some serious fascist rhetoric done in a really bad German accent.

Oh man I'm picturing that in a very Pythonesque kinda way. With John Cleese playing the german. He loses the game to the Russian get's up goose steps away kicking the table over.
Ohhh and the russian is dressed like a viking for some reason.
Then Graham Chapman (genius that he was) comes in wearing the colonel uniform he would wear yelling "Right, Right, that's enough of that silliness"

where do YOU draw the line buzzkill?
Not to interfere, but I think a 2 line response that garners a several paragraph response has an obvious winner and not so much of a winner scenario. If you'll notice, his last name is a prominent German one, so please bear that in mind as you read further.
A lot of people, especially of German descent, are still rather touchy about the prospect of "looking cool" in an SS uniform. If you are going to consider that there were regular soldiers, who fought because they had to, and the SS, who were what might be considered hardline loyalists to a cause universally considered "evil," it may have been more appropriate to presume positive responses if you had used something other than "SS" specifically as your point of interest.
I personally don't care what people wear or do, but you brought up a topic that was, likely inadvertently, broaching a pathway into a touchy subject, and as such you should be prepared to accept the criticisms and opinions that come with it with dignity, or don't bring them up at all.
You bring up a very valid and well thought out point.
I would just like to add that people are definatly in the right to their own opinion, especially if they have had personal experience with the subject.
But is making a judgment call and accusation about a persons character and moral compass in a public forum ok? I value the opinion of my peers, and do not in any way want them to think I'm Mr. Berg was acurate with his judgment call.
If he was uncomfortable with my comment there were many mature ways to address it becides, basically calling me names.

You are right, and this post would have made a much better response than your first one to his statement. I appreciate the picture, by the way, and wish I could get some of the female gamers I know to get that into WW2 games! Happy Gaming!

Phantom Lord (c. 1982) Blitzkrieg (Cover) For Whom the Bell Tolls (c. 1984) Disposable Heroes (c. 1986)
If you don't know those you've missed some of their best stuff!
But, they all support your observation that Metallica aren't exactly arena rock Jessie Popes!

I have a Lee Enfield Mark IV that came with the same original spike (screwdriver style) bayonet as the Lee Enfield in your photo. It is stamped 1944. Yours looks like a Mark IV as well.
holy hell... i just watched this clip muted because i was listening to Hendrix - happened to be The Band of Gypsies "Machine Gun." that was an experience.
btw this is the only scene from FMJ that i remember!

"This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.
My rifle, without me, is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will...
My rifle and myself know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit...
My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage as I will ever guard my legs, my arms, my eyes and my heart against damage. I will keep my rifle clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...
Before God, I swear this creed. My rifle and myself are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life.
So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but peace! "
