There certainly hasn't been anything like it posted on BGG recently. Also - I now know a lot more about the game than I did before. Perhaps the only thing that might be lacking is that there dosn't seem to be a small child holding some cards in the picture.

It's a shame that you were forced to look at the picture and comment on it then. Perhaps there are other things on the Internet that you can consider a waste of your time to look at, and then spend more time commenting on!

I know your picture is more "pure" but when I tried to use the "people" catagory without a human in the picture BGG rejected it. And since I wanted to use the "people" catagory that BGG has created as one of the few picture catagories, I reluctantly decided to add a human (the one that is usually around the house had to do).
I wanted to make it more informative of a picture too, but she didn't want to do the PowerPoint I made of the game so I could make an animated GIF of all the games key features. Sans that, I am not sure how I could have made the picutre more informative - everything that is came in the box is on the table.

I can see where you are coming from. Any more pictures of women playing games and this site will have to be renamed broadgamegeek.com
Sorry, I do not have any mini's like you and Paul have to take pictures of to "contribute" to the site. I only have living humans in my house, not minature replicas. That is ok with me, I find the humans much more interesting to talk to....
Besides, I tried uploading a picture of this game with a war machine mini playing it under the BGG provided "people" catagory, but they rejected it. As crazy as it seems I added a real human and they accepted the picture. I know - totally CRAZY. Who the hell would want to see a picture of a human playing a game (under the "people" catagory) when they could look at this http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/375915 playing Tales of the Arabian Nights instead?
Maybe the net needs a minaturegeek.com site so you hater-mini people do not have to be bothered with us pesky humans.

Now there's an idea whose time has come! Are you listening Aldie?
Wow, you've got a beautiful wife/girlfriend who will also support you when it comes to your hobby (maybe not always, but, hey - she's obviously trying). Lucky guy!
by the way, the "critics" that dislike these sort of pictures always seem to have the time to click on the picture, look at it, and leave a post...
If you dislike people in pics, why bother looking at them, much less posting on them???????
uhhh???????
why??????
It's not about whether I like a particular picture. It's about being a little bored by BGG's constant flow of these samey pictures. It's simply about wishing that BGG's gallery was a more interesting place again.

I'm with you, man... Oh how I long for the good old days when this was a popular image here on BGG...

Please, tell me how your picture you uploaded is more "interesting" than the one I uploaded. I assume everything that came in the box is on your table as is the case in the picture I took.
I am serious. Please tell me how to make a more interesting picture, in your eyes. I looked through your images have to say I hated most of 'em. Even though random War-mathingy game art isn't my thing, I didn't leave any sarcastic comments.
In fact the only differnce I see between your picture above and mine is my playing partner is in mine and about a hundred or more so thumbs. If I ever need to limit my thumbs to about a dozen you can come and give me some pointers
And this isn't about my not liking your pictures, it is about me not liking you being a hypocrit.
I must be getting old. The thing that interests me most about this picture is bringing up the full size version and looking for interesting books on the shelves. Oh, and is that an abalone shell there?

You forgot to mention that there isn't a cat in the picture anywhere.
I love Melissa, but don't tell her. It's a secret if she can find this. Shhhhh....

It is true that the most interesting thing about the pictures is the person playing the game. 100 people could send in a picture of the game box, they'd all be pretty much the same. Stick a person in there playing and it's unique.

Actually, this photo is the first one in the gallery showing the game being played. It is actually quite useful, showing how much space it takes up on the table, what it looks like in play, stuff like that.
The really interesting thing about this picture is fact that posters wife dressed up and posed for a game photo. How many wives would look at you like you were completely crazy for asking them to do that.
Please, tell me how your picture you uploaded is more "interesting" than the one I uploaded. I assume everything that came in the box is on your table as is the case in the picture I took.
Pretty hard to see the game in your shot.
Anyway - like I say - I don't particularly object to that individual photo, I'm just bored of the same old threads every day:
- "Here is a photo of my wife/small child" - "Oh my goodness - how adorable, you must be so proud" - "No really, your child is even cuter" - "Oh stop it, here have some thumbs"
I'll drop it again now (and probably have another moan about it in a month or so). See you then.
I agree with the assessment above of "If you don't like seeing people in the picture, don't look at the picture". As much fun as flame wars are, this one seems to lack a point that anyone really cares about other than the flamer.

Please check yourself for pickles - when I view the picture at its original size I can actually read the words on the map, without my glasses on.
Any other complaints I can fix for you?
Also, instead of complaining, you could post something "interesting"
For the record I didn't know that draping a scarf over your shoulder counted as "wearing a costume".

I have nothing to add to this. I just felt a tremendous need to quote it.

Then why do you click on (and comment on) these types of photos that you know are going to generate this type of discussion/debate?
By the way (this is something I'm sure we can agree on), this is yet another reason to employ the "All | Game | People | Creative" filter that is available for the individual game page photos. Then folks who object to the inevitable "people" pictures won't have to endure them.
Admins ... is this really so hard to implement on the main page, considering similar code can be re-used from the individual game pages that do offer this filter?
I understand that the admins have a lot of stuff on their plates, but this issue seems to be an annoyingly common and (relatively) easily solved complaint...
Anyway - like I say - I don't particularly object to that individual photo, I'm just bored of the same old threads every day:
But you did particularly object to that individual photo, pointing out particular faults you found with it (back before your criticisms were ably answered and you changed your tune). Albeit in a sarcastic manner. If the matter is simply that you're 'bored' with these threads, it's easy enough to ignore them. Even easier than ignoring the picture.
Option #1: don't click on the picture. Should be easy enough since you don't like the picture to begin with.
Option #2: don't scroll down the page to the discussion portion of the page. Unless you're working on a PC with a 2000x1500 resolution, you don't even have to know a discussion is taking place.
Then why do you click on (and comment on) these types of photos that you know are going to generate this type of discussion/debate?

LMAO @ "endure". Nice one!
I agree with you 100%. I realized asking why they click on something they know they will not like and then feel the need to comment on it is basically asking "Why are you an a-hole?", but with much more tact. I don't suppose many a-holes ever fess up to being an a-hole, much less change from being an a-hole to something more pleasant, but we can all hope.....
I would like to take this time to thank all the people and friends who chose to "endure" this photo. My wife and I enjoy living our lives ina fun, light hearted way and we find doing things like this fun.
Insulting other people's images makes you the biggest hypocrite of us all (and also worries me as to how much time you have on your hands to go through people's contributions and history). Did you notice that the more offensive you became in your statements the less thumbs you received for them? Don't defend your picture by attacking other people's pictures, like your picture, they are all needed on this site.
I'm all for pictures of people playing games over boring box cover photos. So for the most part, I am in your corner (although I prefer seeing a person playing the game instead of looking and posing for the camera). However, the geek needs both types of pictures. Photos of game boxes and zoomed in pictures of components might be super tiresome, but they are an important part of this website. They provide a more detailed view of what is in a box. They allow us to make informed purchases, instead of ordering blindly on a website.
Creative photos show our fellow gamers and outsiders who visit the site that we all have a sense of humor and that our hobby isn't dead serious. They make board games seem more inviting and more interesting and they provide a wonderful laugh in the morning.
People photos are essential to the geek. Sure, some people might post a good looking player partner with the intention of getting thumbs, but who cares. Part of the reason people seem to get so upset over pictures with women is because those pictures generate more thumbs than their own. But seriously guys, what the hell is so goddamn important about thumbs? This site needs all sorts of people pictures. We need photos of the hot and not so hot wives and moms playing games, to show outsiders that board games are not just for men. We need pictures of cute kids playing games, no matter how cute they may be, because it reminds us that gaming is playing and playing is for the youthful or the young at heart. Yes, images of people may get a little boring sometimes, but above all else, it's important to show that people actually play these games we love so much.
In conclusion, I hate cats in boxes because I'm allergic to cats and I hate furry animals.
...is basically asking "Why are you an a-hole?", but with much more tact.
I don't know that I'd go so far as calling someone an a-hole. Perhaps it's more like when you smell something awful, but keep sniffing at it for who-knows-what-reason.

You mean it's not a contest? But surely you acknowledge that there is an on-going contest to see who can give the most thums, no? Or rather, are you meaning to imply, sir, that thumbs are absolutely and entirely meaningless beyond the meaning that each person individually attributes to them? Heretic!
Joe is a friend of mine (actually he adn his SO are coming over tonight for some gaming with me and my wife - Shogun is on the menu!) and I was just giving him some friendly ribbing, and maybe some cross-pollenation for his awesome contribution.
I thought when I wrote "exploiting innocent stormtroopers trying to have some lightheared dexterous fun........." might give some insight into the tongue-in-cheek feeling of my message. I also thumbed his posts in that thread and the picture itself. I should have used an emoticon I guess. My bad for bad nettiquette.
Other than that - I agree 100% with your post - great post!
I was all ready to thumb your post Mike, until I got to this line...

Why can't we have our cats in boxes pictures without you harassing us? You are a closed minded freak in the same bent as those complaining about hot gamer chicks. What a jerk.
BTW, this is supposed to be a joke, so nobody rant and spew hate on me about it please. I hate that I have to write a disclaimer and ruin the joke aspect, but it comes down to that around here sometimes. But I mostly love it here so I will tolerate the pain that comes along with it.

One of the things I like about BGG is the sense of community. I enjoy the fact that there are other geeks like me out there, and I like to see them playing games. As a woman, I like to see a few women playing the games I play, it gives me a sense of inclusivity, like I'm not the only gal around here.
And if a girl wants to show a little skin or dress thematically for a game (although I would not call this a costume, I'd wear that to work), that's totally her perogative.
But let's normalize the concept of women playing board games, shall we? No need to assume she was rolling her eyes or was dragged into playing, some wives and SO's are the driving force in the gaming department, and some are co-pilots. I'm sure there are lots of girls who game more for their SO's sake than their own enjoyment, but let's not assume that's always the case unless the OP says so.
BTW, I like people pictures, and I also paint minis, are y'all saying those should be mutually exclusive?
In conclusion, I hate cats in boxes because I'm allergic to cats and I hate furry animals.
I give you a thumb up for everything except for the part about cats in boxes. Cats in boxes are hilarious! But I think you have to be a cat-person to appreciate them. Its something about the usual dignity of the cat being undermined by the most silly behavior.
Small children in photos are lovely too, for more challenging games it often shows the flexibility of the game that it can be adapted for a younger audience. Or that the kid is darn smart. And who doesn't want to show off their gaming family? My favorite so far is this one
where a kid has a triumphant/sadistic grin on his face as he prepares to trounce his opponent in Battlelore. Cute kid, and priceless expression of the viewer's impending doom... I hope when my husband and I have kids, they enjoy gaming this much too.

Thanks guys. Actually my wife has done some modeling in her earlier years, and have done some photography, which is why we enjoy doing things like this. We've done lots but I've only posted the two pictures here for the obvious reasons. I am glad you like them. We post them so people can enjoy them and hope they are enjoyed as much as we enjoy making them.
That being said no real work goes into any of this. Does a 1 foot x 1 foot scarf that is draped haphazardly over one shoulder quailify as a pashmina (the shirt beneath is just a t-shirt and she has jeans on)?

Just to be clear; Are you suggesting women should not have the right to be treated as equal when it comes to gaming photography? It is right and proper in your world to ask the women to leave the room before taking a picture of people playing board games?
I guess there are people who opposed women getting the right to vote, and before that being recognized as citizens and not property, and before that slaves that could be bought and sold.
