Unless you mean the way she fondles that blue token....
Seriously, it's a (fully clothed) woman on a bed. Perhaps you have less of a problem with a "boardgame site using soft porn" than with your own inability to look elsewhere?
I have no problem with porn, I have no problem with boardgames, I DO have a problem with a boardgame site using soft porn to ramp up its page views.
Yeah, well they are welcome to run their site as they see fit. What I have a problem with is consistency. LnLP submitted a picture of my wife and daughter, sitting next to a brand new copy of Heroes of the Blitzkreig...it was rejected because it didn't "feature the game" or some verbiage very close to that. I can't really discern where the above picture features the game.

I guess you could be considered to be "winning" since she hasn't revealed any suspects yet (even though it isn't even the end of the first turn).
But what puzzles me is that only Smith has moved and your wife is about to move Lestrade (and all this with only one character card flipped up!), however the inspector player should be the one to move the first character on turn one and Jack should move the next two. Sorry, I can't help getting all detective-like when I see this game...
And with regards to playing Mr. Jack with your wife on a bed, I've tried this before but I find my wife gets too frustrated with this game to be much in the mood for... another game... afterward.

Without seeing the picture in question I can only guess at the reason why it was declined. Was the game still in the box, maybe even in shrink? I wouldn't decline it for that reason, but I know some people would.
This picture, though it might be slightly staged, actually shows a game in progress, so I think it works perfectly for the "People" category.
Oh, and to the comments about this being soft porn, that is one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever read at this site. I sincerely doubt anyone is cruising the image galleries at BGG for their wanking material - that is unless they are seriously bent.

I might have gotten the initial setup wrong, this was only my second or third time playing it. This first shot was set up. I didn't intend for it to be soft porn for anyone... so sorry if it was. We were on a get away celebrating 4 years of marriage and so I was taking pictures of everything we were doing... well not everything... but this shot was taken then we both sat on the bed and played.
It was a good time. Really like this game and I might take you up on this Mr. Jack online, but from the sounds of it I would be thoroughly beaten!
This is by far the funniest, if we can call it that, thread I have read here.
It is suppose to be about a very good BOARD GAME being PLAYED by a very good looking woman and her boyfriend/husband/friend, but instead it has been driven into the paths of soft porn and foot fetish? OMG! hahahhaha

Next someone will compare posting the photo to something Hitler did and we'll be all set.
Beneath all the clever double-entendres and slyly covert innuendo, I think one can actually hear the very clear and concise response from Curly of the Three Stooges:

In the interests of K.I.S.S.: some gamers are women. Some of them are stunningly beautiful women. Posting pictures of them is no different from posting pictures of any other person playing a game. What they wear, how attractive they are (to you, subjectively), how they interact with the camera: all of these things are irrelevant as long as they are gamers playing games.

No, this woman is not stunningly beautiful, and she is not playing a game.....there's no information, either regarding the game (just the box and a far view of the board) or the woman (just a far view of the head mostly)
You know what? I'm getting tired of these pictures. They're plain dumb: no creativity, no information about anything. They're just here to say: 'Hey, look at my GF how nice-looking she is' (and frankly I have yet to see a stunningly beautiful woman pictured on BGG). This is at the same level as the 'my 2 year old beats me at Funkenschlag' thread. All it shows is the low maturity level of the poster, and it might scare any newcomer. There are lots of pictures of men playing games on the site, in light of which your comments come off as potentially sexist (unless you're moaning about all of those, too). Your attitude belies your login name.

Wait a second.. Last I heard BGG was an interactive site where people (MEN and WOMEN) post photographs of game playing. Seriously, soft porn? Have you even watched Cinemax before or Showcase (if you're in Canada), now that's soft porn. This is a picture of a nice looking girl playing a game.
I notice that when there are attractive girls (and oh dear what could be cleavage!!!) they got a lot of flack. Why? Suck it up, buttercup we girls play boardgames too.. and sometimes we're sexy.

How is showing a picture of your wife or girlfriend different than showing a picture of your kids playing games? There is no difference, because it's people playing GAMES. Good lord, listen to yourself.
So to say he's showing her off is silly. And you know what? If he is, so what! He's proud that his wife is playing games with him. Sheesh. How lucky is he!

Joe,
You must be looking at a different picture than I am. The game player in this picture is playing a game and the game board (which you said was a far?? view) and box are in the front, while the player is in the back ground.
How is it not relevant to the game? Because it has a female in it? If anything, it is YOUR comment that is not relevant. I find the picture very relevant as it shows me that it is a possible game that my wife might want to play with me. If all I were to see were males playing, then she may not be so interested in it (i.e. war games).
Quick question, do you go around and police all photos with "people" in them and then spew the same prudish, negative comments? Basically I am wondering if you say this to pictures with nothing but males in them or if you save the comments only for females? Sexist much?
On another note, who are these "newcomers" and why are they so scared? How does the photo show that the OP has a low maturity level? If anything, your comments show that YOU have a low maturity level, no?
I notice you hide behind an alias too... how typical!

When is BGG going to add the thumbs down button!? Could there ever have been a more appropriate post for it?
So please, if you really want to show a people picture, please show something that is meaningful.
This picture is quite meaningful. It showcases a situation in which you can comfortably play this game; it tells a user who is not familiar with the game how one can play this in a very relaxed setting, even with a decent amount of brainwork necessary.
It seems that you guys probably don't often have the opportunity to see average sized women but if you're looking for this, there are plenty of other websites that will make you happy. This website is dedicated to games of all sort.

in which you can see the amount of space and concentration required.
If you wish to critique the usefulness of my photo, which my partner took, please feel free to do so there.
This picture is of no interest either, but at least it's not making the front page AND it's about two people REALLY playing. BTW the picture above is certainly not in a relaxed setting - just try to reproduce the setting, and you'll understand.

You must be looking at a different picture than I am. The game player in this picture is playing a game
Is that so? She is placed somewhere with a game board in front of her, and she is actually touching a game element, but is she playing the game?
I've seen other pictures on BGG of people playing games. They look at the board, their faces express joy or amazement or anger, or any emotion that the game evokes by them. I miss all of that in this picture. It's just a girl being pretty who happens to have a game board in front of her, as if by accident.
"Scare a newcomer"? REALLY? Scare? Wow. You're that threatened by the picture your going to worry about if it will "scare" someone you don't even know. You must have the wieght of the world on your shoulders. Anyways, time for my automated response to your post:
I am sorry; I didn’t see where this website was dedicated to you and what you think is interesting. Yes I know - the entire world has not seen fit to create itself in a way that makes you happy. You might want to get used to that.
Question: What you do get out of coming here to complain to everyone that you do not like something you chose to take the time to look at?
Also your comment is off-topic. This section is for comments on this poster’s picture itself, not if BGG should accept pictures of people in them. It would be just as apt to discuss stupid people’s inability to spend their time doing things they enjoy, as opposed to consciously choosing to view pictures they know they will not enjoy. Since you want to turn this into a free-for all about what makes people happy...
This is not the place to complain about the picture. The poster cannot control the thumbs system. The poster submitted a picture to this website and it got approved by the sites owners. If you have a problem with this website, go take it up with the owners. This is a privately owned website. PLEASE don’t drag the constitution or people’s inalienable rights into this. You do not have a right to voice your opinion here; the owners have the right to choose what they want on their website.
Please note there is a picture category on BGG. This picture belongs to the "people" category, thus it must have a person in it. This poster’s picture has his wife in it. She is probably his also his best friend and thus he probably plays the majority of games with her; hence she probably will be in most pictures he takes of people playing games. If you do not like pictures of people, then do not choose to view them. This is a very accommodating website and there are other picture categories made for misanthropes like you.
Posting negative comments about a user’s site-accepted contribution or the contents of the said accepted material is crass, immature, and ego-centric and comes off a jealously.
For the record, ALL submitted material is ego-centric, including this post. Pictures, personalized avatars (especially animated ones), witty usernames, witty comments, micro-badges, uber-badges, session reports, reviews, and everything with an identity linked to who posted it all do the same thing. They serve the purpose of "Look at me, I am here, see how I am important, special, and different". Doesn't mean it is a bad thing, but all serve the ego the same exact way.
In fact, what makes you think you posting your opinion for all the masses to read is any less ego-centric than the OP posting his picture?
At least the OP is sharing something that makes him happy and in turn it may make others happy too. Who are you to piss on his contribution and by proxy, all those who enjoyed this enough to thumb it?
It must suck to game with you. Do you bitch to everyone in the group about some other player doing legal moves you don't like too? Cuz that what your post is. "Waaa. I don’t like pictures of pretty girls playing games, someone make it stop so everything is about me and what I want again".
I am not saying you shouldn't voice your opinions. I am saying voicing them here is as self-serving as the OP posting the picture. BGG admins passed this picture. Take it up with them off-line of you want to see a change. Bitching to us all here will do nothing but give you attention and makes you a hypocrite.
Pictures on the geek usually show things the photographer has an interest in. Like games. Or painted miniatures. Or self-made game additions. Or creative stuff, like a team of wookies playing Blood Bowl. Or people playing games. That may involve girls / wifes playing games. We like games, we like our girls, why shouldn't we take pictures of them?
Most of these pictures are staged. They are set up. Composed. Maybe even post-processed. Because in the middle of a game people tend to actually play the game, not fiddle around with a camera all the time to get a decent shot.
With that in mind, posting a picture of a girl in any far fetched game related context and a staged setting is fairly natural. Common even. And ok.
What's inappropriate, though, are some of the comments those pictures get. Like "yay! Tits (underneath that shirt)!". Or "that's a gameress I'd like to [handle in an erotic manner]". Or "eek, you can see naked skin on her arm, it's soft porn".
Grow up.
Women are common in the real world, why wouldn't they be online? If you don't like to look in a friendly/pretty face, don't look. Nobody forces you to click on a thumbnail. Carry on. The indecency is not in posting a picture of a (fully dressed, by the way) woman, but in making rude and sexists comments on every picture that has a woman in it.
No, this woman is not stunningly beautiful, and she is not playing a game.....there's no information, either regarding the game (just the box and a far view of the board) or the woman (just a far view of the head mostly)

OK, now my personal thoughts: First thing I do when someone shows up and complains and insults someone who contributes to the site is to check them out for hypocracy.
It is true, Joe Cool has not uploaded any pictures of his "beautiful wife", but only because he's not uploaded anything much at all. Shortest contribution list I have ever seen. And since 2002 he has not contributed enough to even get one patron badge.
So Joe, since you got the world all figured out why don't you share some of your awesomeness with us? Where are the well composed shots of your beautiful wife playing a intersting game that is also very informative? And how bout tossing the very media you use to show the world what an jealous asshole you are a few bucks so they can offset your stupid complaint posts with some more bandwidth...
Or are you just here to leech off everything you like and bitch about everything else?
Apologies to all who are put off by my behavior but I am getting sick and tired of these kind of people running amuck. I don't think people who insult others just because their opinion differs should be generally accpeted. People who chose to open those doors should be greeted likewise by others who chose to walk through those doors.
Ok people (complainers only), stop being such hypocrits!
If this girl was ugly, because obviously she is not, there would not be people calling this soft porn or inappropriate. It is just the fact that there is a cute girl in the picture, and the fact that guys like it, that they complain. There is nothing wrong about the picture, there is not even a cleavage showing!
There is a game and a girl enjoying it with her husband! Anything wrong? No, what is wrong is your minds that could think of this to be porn or offenssive!!!
If you do not like this kind of pictures, then do not click on them!
BTW the picture above is certainly not in a relaxed setting - just try to reproduce the setting, and you'll understand.
Sorry for feeding the troll, but. Wait! What? That is very relaxing, and that's how me and my gf usually play. But we tend to put a slab of wood on top for less chance to a mess
There is a "people" photo category for a reason. Why is there always bitching whenever there's a photo of a woman/child/grandparent submitted? If it's so awful, why do people even click the pictures in question?
Is it because people enjoy the sort of righteous anger they get from feeling offended?
You know, as a woman, and a relative newcomer, I'm starting to get concerned about this trend of negativity towards pics of women playing games. I thought this was a fun community comprised of beloved games and the people who love them. So why so much hate for pics of people playing games?
Don't like? Don't look! The pics on the front page are tiny thumbnails for a reason. If you don't like what's accepted, take a turn at GeekMod yourself and vote that way, we users all collectively control what's accepted.
And sure, there are a lot of pics of people (men and women) playing games on beds... ever noticed that hotel rooms, small apartments, and dorm rooms don't have large tables to play on? Floor or bed, there's your big surface. I think it's a little harder to play a game on the floor.
And furthermore, I'm so sick of hearing about pics looking "posed" or "that woman's not really playing" as though women who really play are rare as unicorns and someone just got their girl to fake it. When there's a camera in your face, you pose, you smile. We are all culturally trained (men and women) to do it. Viewer affects subject, remember? Unless you're a peeping tom, there's no such thing as a truly candid photo. Anyone who looks all concentratey in the pic is just faking it too, trying to pretend the camera-person isn't there, and "act normal".
So smile people, put your favorite men, women and children in a pic with your favorite game. I love seeing pics of people playing games I'm interested in, and I look for pics of women playing games to get a better notion of whether the game is just meant for a sausage-fest or if a gal might dig it too, it's not my only qualification, but it sure helps. But let's not be snarky about pics of someone else's loved ones, that's just rude. If you don't have something nice to say...

(btw I am not jealous, I have a beautiful wife and very bright and beautiful kids, but, like most other people in my case, I don't express the need to show them off on internet).
So please, if you really want to show a people picture, please show something that is meaningful.
First, I assume you are trolling, but, what the heck on the off chance you are not.
I beg to differ.
First: The woman is stunningly beautiful.
Second: If you don't like the pictures and find them boring just stop looking at them, it's not really that hard. There's nothing offensive about the images.
It's MIke's wife. After reading all the discussions on this picture I think it's time to throw in my own two cents. I appreciate the comments of the women on this board, especially Gina and Bess. It's silly to think that people would never post pictures of their family and friends playing board games. Some of the comments on this thread have been hilarious (especially the foot fetish one). Most of you have made me laugh and appreciate that my husband has some friends to discuss his board games with. Other comments on this thread tend to lead me to believe that some members of your community desire to be exclusive, as if I wouldn't be immediately welcomed if I came into one of your gatherings to play games. Would I need to change my appearance or look more like a stereotype to be accepted among some of you? Maybe board gamers need to reevaluate the qualifications of who they will accept. Not everyone is going to be as serious about games as others, but a lot of people do in fact enjoy playing board games. A more welcoming attitude towards women may make them take a second look at playing board games.
And I completely LOL'd at the soft porn comment. What about this picture qualifies as soft porn? Don't tell me that you've never used a bed to play a game, or *gasp* something even more scandalous, like read a book! And I didn't know that smiling for a picture was somehow against the rules here. Sorry! I promise never to look at the camera again. Maybe I'll put on my habit the next time Mike pulls out the camera.
Just for the record, I love seeing the pictures of people's kids playing board games. They're absolutely adorable! If you love your family it's only natural to show them off. As a parent and a teacher I'm always looking for games that will stimulate a child's brain and keep them away from the degenerative effects of TV and video games. Playing board games with your kids has such a positive effect on their social and academic development so huge kudos to the families that play together!!!
Actaully though, Mike's Wife (if that is your real name), the habit is not enough - some people won't be happy until all attractive women appearing on BGG are wearing burkahs.
So take their dislike of you and your husband's picture as compliment!
Please keep uploading these pictures. They are far better than a meeple on a board!!! And don't listen to these jerks who are constantely judging everybody.

Exactly! I've seen more skin in a Sears catalog than I've ever seen on BGG (aside from the usual Busen Memo references ).
I think there's just a strong vein of misogyny floating around that assumes any nice-looking woman playing in "this here men's world" of BGG must be faking interest. Or that the men posting photos of any woman must be only interested in her goods/showing off her goods and not her good company and gaming abilities. Haven't we moved past this as a society?
Kudos to you, Mike's-Wife for being a good sport and a good gaming-partner. Clearly there are many people here who appreciate a diversely gendered community, and can appreciate us girls without being creeps or trolls. But somehow these crazy threads start up every time someone posts a well-shot pic of a nice-looking lady... being a bit on the shy side, it has made me think twice about posting any photos of myself playing or posing with any of my customized game-aids. But then I keep thinking, I appreciate seeing that other women are interested in xyz game, maybe my visual vote should be up there too to help normalize the gaming experience for other women. I'm still on the fence.
No Bess - do not let them win! I want to see your customized game aids.
Oh crap, what did I just do?!!?!
Seriously I hope when people stick up for pictures of girls playing games it encourages you to stay here and be part of this community. Without you and the people like the supporters in these threads this group is just a bunch of elitist over-geeked, social retards still living with mom and dad.

Been there, done that!
PS
Wow! You're not kidding! I just glanced through that thread, and what a nasty flame-war that was! I mean that got vile!
How could anyone say such awful things about total strangers? They were pretty insulting to both you and your wife. Sad that a little skin should make such controversy.
I also belong to a majority-female niche forum about knitting, and I have to say, we don't treat pics of men that way with such meanness, and there are are some threads with pics of knitted male undergarments on studly male models! Those threads get very popular, yes , but we don't hate on the women who post the pics, nor their studly husbands/SO's. And we try to be very supportive of the male knitters who join us there as well...
Get this woman her own account so we can give her the thumbs and geek gold she deserves for her excellent contributions!
And if I happen to miss it, GM me so I can give her the geek gold necessary for her avatar.

Believe me I have tried. She spends so much time on parenting blogs that she thinks she wouldn't have the time for this one. I really appreciate the kind offer, and Mike's wife has a name... it's Jewls. I will have to get an uber geek badge that says I play games with my hot wife, or something like that!
This is by far the funniest, if we can call it that, thread I have read here.
It is suppose to be about a very good BOARD GAME being PLAYED by a very good looking woman and her boyfriend/husband/friend, but instead it has been driven into the paths of soft porn and foot fetish? OMG! hahahhaha
Ridiculously hilarious!
Next someone will compare posting the photo to something Hitler did and we'll be all set.
They're both women!!
Wait, what? Hitler was a woman!?!
He put on liederhosen, and hung around in baaaaaaars.

Ditto. I've posted two and caught hell both times too about using girls for thumbs and whatnot. Then some people thinks a picture is too slutty and some think it is not slutty enough. The funny thing is it seems the people who think the picture is NOT slutty enough (ya know, the degenerates) are usually the polite people and the people who are complaining about a fully clothed women adn too much skin (the only skin on my wife's picture was her arm and one picture it was her face) are the rude ones.
Apparently morality does not extend to common courtesy.....

Cause when you are not excited, you are calm and stay polite...but when you are aroused...its violence inside of you and you want to say: ''WHY you post this picture of a girl I will never get to play with, you evildoer!!!!!!''

We will have to travel to Spain and game with our wives together. God forbid if we were to post a picture of the both of them together!
Spain huh? That would be cool. Can we come? My beautiful wife has been bashed by the BGG social retard squat too......It'd be our own little club. That would really make em upset! lol
My name is Glenn! Long have I carried Cyrus's hopes and dreams, and now I bear the Masamune as well! Henceforth, I claim them as my own! I shall slay the Fiendlord Magus and restore our honor!
You can't find a limit to stupidity. For those who haven't seen this thread before I must underline it since it's a living proof of stupidity in BGG - http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/416360
I just want to say that i like the photo. If it's relevant or not, that's another issue but it doesn't trouble me at all.
What really amazes me is that there are real people that can be offended by this picture. Someone said here "soft porn", and i looked again to the picture and i really tried to see were. I mean, i really made a strong effort to try and imagine what that soul meant and... i'm sorry... maybe it's my problem... but i don't get it. Soft Porn?!? Where??
If one wants to take a nice picture of a game that includes a nice lady, i don't see the problem with that. I sure would prefer to see my wife in this photograph holding my brand new game of AoS and SMALL WORLD than my ugly face, but that's me...

I smell a microbadge in the making... "My wife got bashed by the BGG Social Retard Squad"

What a Great photo showing a couple who games together... y'all are so lucky! I still hope to find a (Single) Gamer Guy one of these days...
Personally, I'd crop it and clean it up a bit and put it in a nice frame for display - I Love the pose and the serene expression on her face is Beautiful. One of those "priceless" photos in my opinion... but just MY opinion...

I read your blog and you inspire me Denise. Thanks for the comment, and you will find your gamer guy!

That remark gave you a 50 tip and now you have a badge saying "my wife is a cylon"!?! You lying b*%$
Edit: by the way: you DO have a very nice wife and I enjoy looking at this pic a lot more than yet another group of fat, bald geek gamers (although many of those make me grin) Kudos for uploading. We need more photos of cute girls, grannies, athletic guys, skinny dudes, girls-next-door etc, then people will actually start to believe boardgaming is not only for geeks!

Nice try kiddo. Upload some more pics of your wife
As anyone can attest after trying to play a game on a bed, the second someone shifts their weight.
Not entirely true. I went through a few semesters in college where I often played games on my bed, for lack of a more suitable playing surface. And sometimes those were shorter wargames with paper maps!
As anyone can attest after trying to play a game on a bed, the second someone shifts their weight...everything on the board does too. So if you can't really play on a bed, then what's the real purpose of this photo?
That might be a problem with a soft mattress. I prefer a firmer one so we often play on our queen sized bed.

What difference does that make? Is there some law they might be breaking?
Or put another way - What is the real purpose of your post?
Just putting in my 2 cents worth...just like you're doing. Or is yours the only comment that matters?
There is a difference - You opened the door, I walked through an open door (yours).
First, you assumed much about the OP's picture, projected your value system on it, then insinuated the OP had a some alterior motive to posting the picture based on your judgments.
I just pointed out whatever your point was, it was irrelevant to the situation. This thread is not what you think the motive is behind the OP wanting to psot this picture - it is about this site-admin apporved picture.
Then, in an attempt you make you understand I used your own words, which you seem to take offence at. Hmmmm.......
Well, my wife and I have a California King bed with an extra firm mattress and anytime we tried to play anything with normal pawns or other smooth based pieces, we just gave up because everything slid on the board (except money or cards) when either of us moved causing us to lose track of where an important piece was on the board. We prefer to play on a card or kitchen table. If playing on a bed works for you, then I guess that's all that counts.
Mr. Jack is real easy because it all disks and the cards for us typically don't slide around. When I say firm I'm talking Tempur-Pedic.
Just be careful playing Mr. Jack if it's on a "magic fingers" vibrating bed. You'll have Dr. Watson shaking and flopping on top Ms. Stealth in no time.

Ah, always good to be reminded of the golden goodies here now and then.
I thought it was good that things were quiet! This one sure stirred the pot! I wish she would get her own account but she is not as into games as I am.
