I found this solution for the forest tiles in order to avoid using the ready made trees that are sold in the market. This solution has the small benefit that the game figures can sit normally on the tile and be manipulated without any little tree interfering. Most probably I will work on a similar solution for the buildings and DOTF dunes when I have the time.I am also thinking about combining them to make forest hills( I wonder why such terrain was ignored by the designers- it is pretty common in nature and it can add another element to the game strategy)plus level 3 impassable rock hills for my home made scenarios to come.

Very cool! Do you have instructions so I could try?

A similar (and not as nice) solution could be to simply mount the hexes on foam core.

Awesome. I hate knocking over those trees all the time.
Is it painted plaster?

They are all made of foamcore("sandwich" as some shops call it here!)- really fast and easy to make. I use 5mm thickness for all level 1 blocking terrain(forest, byildings, dunes etc).I will try also 3 mm for that in the(close) future. Then I use 1 cm for level 1 hills and stick 2 such pieces together for level 2. I do not know how to put together a PDF file so farblush but once I find out maybe I can make a step- by- step tutorial. Or, more easily describe fast the process here.

I use my xacto knife to take away few very small parts of the paper surface and a small spike to make a few holes here and there on the top surface, but also on the sides. Then I drybrush those areas(after I have painted them of course) and it really looks like a rock from close- unfortunately the pictures aren't so accurate.

I don't play Tide of Iron... I play few wargames... that said, brilliant idea there, I love it, and will use it should I ever need custom terrain for a game.

The fastest way without having to download/install any software...

1) Create the document at http://docs.google.com (sign up for a Google account first if you don't have one for GMail, etc).

2) From the file menu, select Download File As... => PDF

Alternately, download and install the free OpenOffice Suite, which allows you to save files as PDF...

I agree. Nice work. I've been trying to create leveled terrain for SL and have been working with foam core, too. You've got some great results here!
I've been eyeing this game for a while. It's a bit of an investment. I'm wondering what the hex size is. Could the boards be interchangeable with Deluxe Squad Leader, for example? Could somebody measure them exactly and tell me how big they are? Thanks.

I am liking these a lot.... Really fancy having a crack at it myself now. I'll try and post some pics of my first attempts - if they're not too disastrous. Thanks for the bright idea!

You can sell? I guarantee many people would buy. Not only to TOI, but for other games too. Think fondly of the idea. Not everyone has your artistic ability.
