I agree. I have yet to buy the game... but i'm a freak for the "above and beyond" dive-in for that "extra" cool detail. I buy the "deluxe" editions and "limited" editions JUST to have the higher quality pieces.

Yep that was 12 Power Grid maps back to back over two days. Worth doing, but possibly not in such a concentrated burst.

I think the creator made extra pieces, if you look at the two green ones on the board, they are the flipped versions of each other. To be sure you'd probably have to make two sets for the flippable ones.
