I particularly like the partially buried Meeple with the Eye of Osiris on its chest...
And even more obviously, the Settlers of Catan shield/emblem emblazoned on the front of the Pyramid.
In the same grain, is the partially exposed maze a homage to the classic Ravensburger game Labyrinth?
What I really want to know is, what's going on around the base of the Sphinx there? Is that some kind of Tentacle-thingy? or a Giant Snake? or an immature Sandworm from Dune? or what!?

Actually, the guy looking upon the maze is supposed to be one of the explorers from Lost Cities.

You got me on that one, Michael. You'd have to ask the artist. I just gave basic guidelines on how I pictured the cover, and he took it from there.
