Yes, I chucked away the insert- I nearlly always do with every FFG Game I've bought! This inlcudes chucking inserts for Descent, World Of Warcraft the Board Game, Starcraft and Twilight Imperium! The only one I've kept so far is the Battlestar Galctica insert, because I could fit all the bits into that one.
Rather than chucking, I re-fold most box liners to conform to the box bottom. FFG games in particular have nice heavy boards (yum), lots of cards and other dense components (yum) and plastic bits that fare best when stored in their own small containers (either bagged, or in small boxes like those four-piece-of-candy Whitman's Sampler boxes and such).
Because of all this "stuff" the boxes themselves, while heavy, benefit from another layer of reinforcement inside, which is where the folded liner comes in handy.
Besides, the pictures are often cool.
I must confess that seeing all this stuff (one can indeed almost get a whiff of the new-game smell) makes this one more tempting . . . .

Starcraft had an insert? I must have thrown it away ridiculously quickly for me to not remember.
